would it be super ghetto if I just used my Hi-Lift and picked it up then slid my jack stands and blocks under it or do you really need to use the floor jack?

-Avery

those jack stands look like the ones Beater posted...are they the 12 ton 30" extension ones?

I still don't know...I think I'll just start and see how it goes...if I don't feel comfortable with the ones I have on blocks then I'll go get the 12 tonners from Harbor Freight.

nah they are just 4 or 6 tons ones i believe. what i ment when i said ghetto was how the back was held up in that pic. its probably one of the dumbest things ive done, thank god nobody was hurt. i was still a ****in newb:haha: it actually sat like that for a week or so with no issues:eek1: i only had 1 pair of jack stands at the time and didnt have money for another pair. once my parents finally had a close up look they bought me a nother pair of stands, so the bricks went away.

Ive used 2x10's stacked under the tubes like that. Not the safest but safer than the bricks! Hey, ya do what ya gotta do!

lol, what was the point of getting the rear end that high off the ground...and supporting it by the axle (assuming it was when you were swapping out your 10b for a 14ff)?
You couldn't even get the axle out like that...what were you up to?

 muddybuddy, that's even dumber than my cinderblocks stacked 2 high, with the 6 ton stands on top of them, and 4x4s across that for my cab swap (which i did myself). i'll have to see if i can find the pics of that somewhere. yeah, it was a little scary.

haha i know it was retarded. it was so long ago, i dont even remember, i dont remember why i did a lot of things back then. i think i had it like that so i could get all the tires off, i had sold the rims and had 8lugs that were getting mounted on my tires. now how i got the rear axle off from that position is beyond me:haha:

beater, i also stacked a layer or two of bricks under the jack stands, cuz 8" lift was so damn tall the stands wouldnt reach. ill see if i got a pic

rofl...

See that's what I'm afraid of being that I have 9" of lift...I think I'll just go down and pick up those 12 ton jack stands that go to 30" this afternoon.

Nothing wrong with those Harbor Freight stands, I've got 2 or 3 sets of them. The trick is to catch them when they are on sale. As far as putting the stands on the leaf springs to support the whole vehicle while your underneath it swapping axles, my eyes just about popped out of my head when I read that! :eek1:

Did you decide to keep the truck? Or are you still thinking about blazer? I have been kicking myself in the butt for not buying a k30 since I purchased my Blazer but ah oh well. How's the swap coming along?

the jackstands arent on the leaf springs, there is no weight on them:haha: i put them there just incase something happened, extra piece of mind. i dont know if they woulda actually helped or not, but fortunately i never had to find out. please, give me a little more credit then that:haha:

No he wasn't talking about you...above someone said that since the jackstands are too short I should just slide the jack stands under the leaf springs and then pull the axles out...but like I said I won't be doing that...that's just asking for trouble...

Well ladies and gentlemen I'm off...I just got home and had some dinner and I'm slipping into my coveralls and heading out to the garage...I'll come back from time to time tonight and let ya'll know how it's going.
