3/4 Ton Swap is DONE: **d-shaft question**

Alright, thank you. Good thing I learn this stuff now, before I go and try to tackle a swap on my own; I'd hate to find out a 15" wheel doesn't clear after I've painted my axle.

rofl...you can't be afraid to scratch up a little paint if you plan to do a 3/4 ton swap. TRUST ME. :)

what kind of an attitude is that? people make mistakes...it's not like there is some "Swapping 1978 3/4 ton axles out of a suburban into a 1985 K10 for Dummies book"...so who gives a hoot if mistakes are made...the point is that I'll get them fixed before it hits the road....

yes, actually there is a publication of sorts out there, its called ColoradoK5. :deal:

when mistakes like the ones you have made, or were contemplating making in the case of your front calipers, and the lives of innocent bystanders are at stake, YOU should give a hoot. keep making dumbass moves, and you will hurt someone. i'm not real sure St. Peter will like that too much.

"fix them before it hits the road" :doah:

so yeah...it's no biggie...you guys always point me in the right direction...the truck hasn't been on a public road in a week now :(

I am glad to see you are fixing this right. next time you run into a fitment issue, step back from it. log on and see what the issue might be. "measure twice and cut once" some things on a project like this are going to require custom fitting like grinding the caliper to fit 15" wheels but there is lot that should bolt together right out of the box.

Im sorry dude but you're the only person I have ever seen to scratch and dent their rig while putting axles under it...... :haha: :haha: :haha:

Avery, are you using the same brake lines that were attached to the other axle? if you are, scab the calipers off of it, since you know they work. and if they dont fit, but they once did, you'll know you've got a 1d10t installer error.

the paint on the axles
my truck is still beautiful :)

Ok Beater...I just woke up so I'm heading out... so there is no difference in calipers from the old 6 lug 10b to the new 8 lug 10b? Except that when mounted on the 8 lug it sticks out further? Oh and yeah these are the same brake lines and fittings off of the old axle.

Another thing: wonder if the mods can lock this thread down once Avery gets his "little project" done?

No sense in dragging this one on and on and on and on and on and on and on....

Too late...

uh...here's a thought...if you don't want to read the updates DON'T LOOK AT THIS THREAD! lol...what an idea.

Ok...the truck is rolling under it's own power now...I wen't to get new calipers and they didn't have any so I just got the 3/8" allen head built into a driver for a socket...so I swapped my old calipers onto the new 8 lug axle.
That way the blocks/SS brake lines work as well...I blead the brakes and put some small rollers on it and took it for a test drive and it works great...the steering is very tight and is centered and the brakes are perfect....
I'll get pics up later but I'm heading off to dinner...

If Avery would listen, and spent anywhere near the time working on his truck that he does on the computer, this thread would only be 2 pages long. :D :D

I will give you credit for at least trying to do it yourself Avery.
