350 TBI -454 TBI conversion/Need help!

I personally would stick to the TBI. Better gas mileage, better response. IMO /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I thought you got around very well, especially for just having all-terrains on it.

But once you start going w/ more power, as already mentioned, you'll be more prone to breakage.

Everything I own gets a 14 bolt rear. I'll bet the one in that 454 Suburban for sale has 3.73's, but you can go to Pull and Save and get a complete 14 bolt FF rear with 4.10s.
If the 454 in that runs good, it might be worth it, but depending on what T-case you want to run, making the 2wd TH400 work can be more difficult or expensive than you want.

I suppose any way you look at it, theres no "simple" solution to getting it how you want. There will always be an upgrade left to do.

Look at me. I always feel theres something more to do or something to change. That Truck Blazer (the one with the 396 on 40's)... Ive had that apart and together so many times... 4 motors, 3 front ends, 2 rear ends, 2-4-6-8" lift springs, and 33-35-38-40" tires.

The Suburban... 2 motors, 2 trannies and T-cases, 2 rear ends, 3 front ends, 4 to 6" lift, from 9.50-16.5's to 35" BFG M/Ts.

The Orange Blazer... 6 motors, 2nd tranny/T-case, 3rd rear end, 2nd front end, 2-4" suspension lift, 4th set of tires.

As time goes on, I just keep changing my mind, and change things (sometimes because of bad/broken parts, but usually cause I just change my mind.)

But I look back and look at all the work I've done to everything, and I don't regret it cause (at least for now), I have what I want and how I want it to be. If you're anything like me, you get attached to rigs. Thats why I keep so many. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I am attached to this one. The gear issue with the 14 bolt is no biggie anyway. I have to change them unless I find a rear with factory 4.56's. I did a lot better with my old mud terrains but I needed a longer wearing tire. They are expensive to have to buy a set every year. I'm going to think about what to do next for awhile. I need a tow rig, but I need/want to get my scout done too. If i have to I'll get four quick disconnect mud flaps until I can get a tow rig up and running again. The wife was just bitching last week that I need to finish one project at a time. But that was the same thing I told her about all of her house remodeling projects she wants done last month. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

I a doing a similar swap. I am dropping in a 396 with 454 tbi into my 90 jimmy. I was told ecm wise all you have to change is the chip. I was going to put an 87-90 454 tbi on the 396 and I was going to take the chip from a 89 1 ton with a 454 and a th tranny. Also as was stated above everything bolts up. Mounts, bellhousing, and the sensors (as I am told)

Also I am assuming the change in sensors is 91 or later b/c I have a 90 and mtblazer has a 89 and are motors are identical sensors and sockets. Keep me up to date. Looks like everyone is getting the BBC bug. /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Yes...I am unsure as to the splin in years for when the sensors changed. I am almost 100% sure taht all TBI 454 and TBI 350s share the same connectors from like 1987-1989 or 1990...The older TB connectors has like a big square four plug for the IAC and a big flat three plugg for the TPS. The newer TPS has a MUCH smaller plug with an offset 3 plug kinda like :. ANd the IAC is a SMALL round (I think!?!?) plug..It is dark out so I can't see jack under the hood on my truck.

If you can score the wiring harness w/ it, you can get ANY year TBI 454 and make it work...

Don't mean to hi-jack, but I'm doing this same swap. I purchased a '95 454 complete with every harness that was attached to it before it was yanked. I plan on installing it in a '90 blazer. How would I find out the split years. You say it may be '89 or '90. From the info that I've gathered, it should be a almost a direct swap. I'm I missing anything? More questions later in my own post.
Thanks, Joe
Yes I've upgraded the 700R and my axles.

Not sure where you could find the information. Ninch you have the 1995 TBI 454 look and see if the connectors are different than on you TBI 350 at the throttle body...Did the 454 you bought have an auto behind it? If so you are going to need to get a different ECM. The ECM pinout for a TBI454 with an electronic trans behind it is COMPLETEY different than the pin-out of your current ECM. If you have the entire harness, it is easy enough to just swap the newer connectors onto your harness. Another thing, I believe 1994 and 1995 used a higer pressure fuel system and you will need to get the correct ful pump...you stcok one won't work. I just recently found this out. The old TBI systems opperated at about 12psi and I found out the other day that they opperated at lik 30psi in 1994 and 1995...I believe I read that on www.turbocity.com and I have NOT been able to verify it yet.

ON my 1987 K5, I had to swap like 60% of the connectors, add in a 12v+ and a ground for the EVRV and add a ground for the ESC, i believe...I will be posting all the wiring diagrams you will possible need here in an hour or so as soon as I get them uploaded...
