4" or 6" spring lift on my 91Jimmy? (picture added)

Good info all around and I appreciate it. The best advice is probably to just leave it alone, but I'll never be able to do that. Hopefully the 4" lift with the 35s will give it a bigger/meaner look without tearing it all to hell. I do only minor off-road stuff, I will mostly use it around town and on the beach. Thanks for the other lift options, defiantly something to consider. Someone mentioned gears and the gears in the thing are stock as far as I know. It is something I have thought about and will probably be my next project, recommendations are always welcome. So what is the deal with cross over steering? What benefit will it give me? Does cross over steering replace the need for a steering stabilizer? How much does it cost?

good thing is your 30 spline 10 bolts should hold the 35's ok if you don't really beat on it. i'd recommend 4.56 gears for all around use, very close to a stock setup. you could have 3.08, 3.42 or 3.73's in there now. most likely 3.73 if it came with the factory tow option. the RPO sticker should shed some light on how it was built....so long as nobody swapped things out over the years. only sure fire way to tell is to count the teeth on the r&p. how far off is your speedo now?

So those of you guys with 6" lifts and poor turning radius, please explain this. I don't think mine turns too bad for a long bed truck. I have the raised steering arm, but no dropped pitman yet :dunno:

i don't know anything about this company, but it has stuff.......no prices?

I just put 2inch springs in the front and 3inch springs in the rear. no blocks or shakle flip. Had to adjust my drag link is about all. Looks good and drives like factory almost. btw 90 jimmy. same 10 bolt spline count. Same 1350 ujoints in the rear as you and the only time I break my drivelines and as of last week my rear end was when I dragged my just baught parts truck up a very steep hill side ways on pavement at full wheel lock all four spinning :) losts of sqealing :) But with out correcting the 3 inch lift angles... It really took alot to hurt it. The higher you go the more it costs. Plus the reason im never going higher is this. Center of gravity. Keep it low and safe. Ive rolled 2 times in lifted jeeps. Never again run the 35s and and trim fenders :) The zero rates in the front to push your 35s 1 inch forward are awsome. with 2 inch front you can use your stock drive shaft still :) Well 3 with the zero rate lol My god I love K5.com!!!!!!

Hi & welcome to the best dam 4x4 site, period!

Nice rig you have there.

Soon you will be like me and dream about what your gonna repair or upgrade on your Jimmy :) It never ends :) Had my Jimmy for 12 years near a quarter million miles on her :) And I swear each month its getting younger lol. Hey at what point can you say your 20 plus year old truck is brand new? lol You are gonna love all the info this site has too offer. Im still trying to find a way to get a membership with out a credit card :( But i will. I have taken pics of all the work over the years I have done. cant wait. But the first reason I posted to you was the center of gravity. Plz put huge tires on... but keep the lift as small as you can. drives better and is safer.

Update is I have talked myself out of the 4 or 6 inch lift, for now at least. I'm very happy with the performance of my Jimmy. With my 2.5" lift I have already had it on the beach and as deep in the woods as I ever plan to go. I'm also concerned about losing my towing ability. I'm in the military and move every couple of years. It's nice being able to hook my car to the Jimmy and drive across the country with ease. Same thing with the boat. The money is burning a hole in my pocket so I'm sure I'll find some other upgrades that I can't live without.

keeping with the question....I am looking into the 4" lift as well because an axle I just got has the 4" lift kit already installed on the front with shocks and springs...but I have to come up with the solution for the rear (14bff)

I like the idea of the shackle flip, but I get scared off hearing about dropping the fuel tank, and other stuff.

be honest...is this a viable option for a mediocre tool owner and regular 2 car garage job? I have a stack of 37" humvee tires and a 14bff just staring at me. Blocks sound easy, but I just dont think thats the path I want to go down.

IF, i were to order the shackle flip brackets from ORD, what else is needed?

Ya know, a set of ez inches ( or zero rates same thing) would make sure it wouldn't rub when wheeling and is only an inch so it shouldn't affect stuff much. Although you may have to extend your driveshaft if you move the axle forward. Will have to readjust steering too.

A flip in the rear would alleviate some axle wrap issues the blocks can introduce.

I like your truck the way it is. There are mods out there that won't change it much but will improve both the looks, wheeling ability and overall driveabliity.

Knew a guy that had a 2.5" lift with the front axle forward an inch ( ez inch) 4" shackle flip in the rear with shorter shackles, x over steering and 10 bolts locked up, man that thing would go anywhere and drive awesome. He did lots of other stuff that those of us with the spring swap stuff did.

Reason i say this is you haven't realized the full potential of those springs yet, once you do I doubt you will ever want anything else

this it most likely the rout I will be going with my blazer. If the OP has money burnin a hole, some lockers would be a great upgrade...
