400 sbc???? (All assembled)

Best to have a helper there. Have the helper sit and run the throttle while you keep watch on fluids and whatever. Start and run with the rad cap off, keep watch and add as needed. Put cap back on when it's nice and warm and the fluid is circulating. Keep your eyes and ears open. Watch for leaks, listen for abnormal noises. Only shut it down if you really have to, try to keep it around 2000 for the 20 minutes. I've been told to vary the rpm slightly, like +/-100 rpm during the time period. Not sure if it helps but that's what I've always done.

Have you considered the valve adjustment? Are you going to rough adjust it before running it? Are you gonna adjust it while running? Are you familiar with the proper procedures for it?

I agree, don't shut it down in the middle of the cam breakin unless it is absolutely necessary. Regarding the valve adjustment, I wouldn't worry about trying to adjust them while it is running. If you follow the proper procedure during the assembly, it should be fine.

Update, Block should be out of the shop Friday, and hopefully assembled sometime next week!!! WOOO!!!! Goin with that 1103 Summit Cam I mentioned earlier, a set of stainless roller rockers, gonna keep my perfromer RPM intake, and 1406 Edelbrock Carb (600 cfm) and my HEI. And I know you guys are gonna hate me for it lol, but im painting the block a dark anodized purple. It will look great with the sliver headers, allum intake and valve covers, and the crome intake and polished carb all against the black engine bay. I think its gonna be sweet and just a little something different about my truck. :woot:

Never been a fan of the 400s. There is a reason hot rodders and racers dont use them and stick with 350s, parts are everywhere.

your smoking crack lol 400's sell like hot cakes every where i've ever been i buy EVERY 400 small block I can. IMHO there the only STOCK small block worth building up

thats good **** man! the 400sbc is a great motor if you have a bigger cooling system to handle the fact that they do run hotter! but other then that there are lots of after market parts for them being that a 350 is pretty much the something just smaller bore, and shorter crank. but i think a 377 is even better witch is a 400 block with a 350 crank, it builds rpm faster and runs cooler. but thats a setup more for the street/strip seen:waytogo:

83 k20 suburban, 6" lift, 454, th400

400 destroker is awesome, most people build them to rap to the moon ( because they will lol) But I like them with mild cam and heads the tourqe curve is nice and flat .

IMHO the worst thing about 400's is the crappy short stock rods......... which is ok buy me cuz I dont trust GM factory rods in my motors anyways

Hey I need a 2.5" exhaust system w/o mufflers for this style truck. Anybody got a link to one? I can only seem to find them in 2.25 :dunno:

Nevermind I got a nice system lol

Hey so what do you guys (cough 4x4high) lol, think that my hp and torque specs will be. 400 40 over, standard crank, I think 3.75" stroke, that SUmmit 1103 cam, with roller rockers and rebuilt stock heads? I know its not gonna be alot, just wondered if anybody knew a ball park range.

This cam. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-1103/
