440 Chevy Project

nice lookin truck, nothing wrong with a mopar motor. I have a buddy with a mopar 568ci in his 92 dodge. That thing goes like a bat outta hell!!!

i dig it because it's different.

The truck is getting very close to being done, figured i'd post a few more pictures even though most of them I took last winter. Took over a spot in my warehouse and we really got some work done on this truck. Basically got it to the point that all it needed was paint, a bed, and bumpers. But, then spring hit and it was back to digging holes and nothing got done on the truck at all.

So, now that it's winter again the paint is finally going on. Spraying it hot rod black tomorrow, which is basically as flat as I could find that wouldn't be a pain to keep clean. Still need a bed, but it shouldn't be too bad to find one.

A nice clean heater made by my buddy, it only has defrost but it works good.

I'm extremely pleased with the way it's turning out, basically what I'm going for is flat black paint with just the right amount of chrome to make it look good. The bumpers won't be done for awhile, but they have a really cool design (at least I think so). Basically the bumpers are the stock chevy chrome bumpers with two 2" receivers right below them. Sticking out the back of the receiver I have some pintle hitch plates that hang down and a removable tube bumper will bolt to them which will make the bumpers street legal. Then in the front of the receivers I will be able to easily mount a winch (will be usable on front and back) but for now I will just have some heavy duty D rings welded to a solid 2" trailer hitch. I will get some pics of it tomorrow.

Oh and I did switch all of the tires as it sits right now, these pics were taken last winter and i guess i hadn't gotten around to the back tires.

If it is out of a Road Runner it was not the stock engine. In 68 only 2 engines were available in the Road Runner and they were the 383 and 426 Hemi. In 69 you could get the 440 6-Barrel along with the 383 and Hemi. If you wanted the 440 in 68 you would step up to the GTX. Damn, this makes me miss my 68 R/T Charger. That was a 440/4 spd with the D60. Had the Powerlock and 3.54 gears. I have owned 4 Chargers and my 74 was a rare one. It was a 440 auto. What made it rare was air, power windows, power locks, and sunroof. Back in 87 I built a Hemi for a friend of mine that owned several Hemi cars. I also had a 69 Super Bee. Back in the mid to late 80's those cars were cheap. I bought the R/T for $800. I also had a 69 SE Charger that was just a 318 car and a 71 with a 318. Yep, I'm an old Mopar nut.:D

My poison was the 'A' body cars. Had a couple of '72 Darts, a 68 Dart and a '74 dart. All small block and all fun as hell!

Definately quite different. Most people swap Chevy's into early Fords and some even put Fords into Chevy's but i've never personally seen anyone put a Mopar into a Chevy. There would be no trying to pass it off as any Chevy engine though with the front mounted distributor like that. Couldn't even pass it off as a Caddy. Now if my buddy seen this thread he would laugh like hell because he said the ONLY WAY he would ever own a Chevy is if he stuffed his 440HP engine into it.

Very Cool !!!! I grew up In Finland MN went to school in Silver Bay

Well it hasn't been fun, but the cab is finally sitting in satin black paint. Satin is such a painful color to paint but it just looks too good. So far it looks like mud would easily wash off but if I took it down a narrow trail the pinstriping would be horrendous.

I was gonna go satin black with mine as well. Heard it was different to paint from a couple old car guys

Reminds me of the new fenders you buy that come with that primer or w/e on em

sweet build, nice to see more Mn guys on here.

I grew up in duluth, still have a few friends there too.
