468 BB Chevy - What is this worth?

Ok. ENGINE UPDATE!

Got the transmission out without too many issues. DIpstick was being a jerk but finally conceded. The kickdoen cable was also a small issue but it was resolved.

Removed flexplate and found those beautiful words....

HI PERF

The crank is still unknown but if the seam found in cast cranks goes all the way back then this one is forged.

Hope to have it out next Wednesday! Once out I will work on identifying the camshaft.

Any further thoughts on the engine and the crankshaft??

The crank appears externally balanced so its most likely confirmed a 4" stroke crank (along with the piston number confirming)

Based on the year of block, TRW pistons, and roller tipped rocker arms, I will guess hydraulic flat tappet on the camshaft, but its certainly possible someone swapped in a retrofit hydraulic roller, or a solid flat tappet (would have some lash slop in the rockers, does it?) I know I would.

I'll check for any slop tomorrow or Friday

If its an Art Carr behind that 468, it probably has some decent parts in it already.
That's what I figured as well. I would run it until it gives me trouble.

I believe that you guys are correct that this is turning into quite a collection of parts!
Nice score @ZombieK5

Nice parts. IMHO should have tuned a little and drove till failure.
I really wasn't fully aware of what was under the hood. I knew it had a 468 BB, 700R4, NP205 and 1ton Axles. I believed all of those parts were old and tired. I also could not get it inspected in PA due to height restrictions and no parking brake.

I bought it with full intention of doing exactly this. New body, frame makeover and new power. Originally was going to buy a 2020 Chevy 2500 with diesel/Allison power train. $70,000+ price shocked me. I decided to get the K5 for $6,000 and put $40,000 into it and make it my OWN.

Built... Not Bought

Saving $30k and ending up with a nice/bad ass K5 is better than a new luxurious pickup with a dubious reliability record and very expensive repair bills. This way I will know every single bolt, nut and wire. I will have turned every nut and installed every part.

I anticipate failures... Worse case I can replace parts MUCH easier than in a new truck. I guarantee replacing a transmission on this K5 is easier than a 2020 truck plus I already have the tools.

Very cool, look forward to watching the build!

Not to be a Debbie, but just make sure you dont bite off more than you can chew. Would hate to see this get 1/2 way through and you lose interest, lack of time or life gets in the way (not much you can do about that) and end up selling partially complete. Unfortunately it happens all too often on massive builds. Nobody goes into it thinking thats a possibility but sometimes it creeps up on you. I’ve been guilty of it myself in the past.

anywho, more pics and updates!

Funds are in the bank and I didn't mention before but myself and my wife are adding a new garage with a full size 2 post lift with enough space for all my tools. Garage will be 24'x33' and 16' ceiling. It will have a welding/plasma cutting station, media blaster, parts washer and 80" man cave size TV. Going before city zoning baord for variances the 1st week of May. Need some positive vibes for that to go well.

The Blazer will get done!

E-brake on 205 is easy with driveline kit .

As to worn out driveline parts . . My 60 front is now under its 4th truck and just basic maintenance done . I plow snow . Use play in mud with 38" swampers . Daily drive . Tow trailers . She still going just fine .

I have the eBrake rear calipers going on. They are on my shelf waiting for their time. Gonna use a Lokar eBrake handle mounted next to the 4 wheel shifters on the floor. No more eBrake foot pedal.

Dang, can't believe I missed that, got some reading to do now. Thanks!

would you like this thread combined with your other thread?
No, this is very informative as this goes on. It would add alot of unrelated items to the Build. I will be adding a summary of this entire thread once I get the engine out of the Blazer and can better figure out what else is inside.
