468 BB Chevy - What is this worth?

I remember Art Carr from a while back. And the 205 is the best stock transfer case there is as far as strength I believe. Its even a short fixed tailshaft. New bearings and seals and she'll be good to go.

You even have some adjustable ball bearing twin stick 205 shifter assembly from somewhere. I wonder who made that.

looks like my off road design shifters .

and its got the electric VSS mod for an electric speedo drive .

Did you at least drive it before you started taking it apart?
Drove it from Long Island NY to Philly. Drive fine. The tires were 40's at the time, I think. The exhaust sucks and was overly loud. It wasn't very responsive but it felt the carb was not 100%. I'm gonna keep Tranny and will rebuild the 205. Of course have the engine redone

Should be 4.56:1 or lower with the 700r4. I am running that with a stock 5.7 and wished I had gone 4.88:1 for more low end torque.

Man, this thing just gets better and better. Art Carr trans and twin-stick round pattern 205? Have you check the axles for lockers or some kind of traction devices? Given all the good hardware you have in the drivetrain I wouldn't be surprised if it at minimum a Detroit out back or ARB's front and back.

Axles have no external signs of lockers... Will crack the covers after the engine is out. Maybe the gold is in the front Dana 60

A decent big block will be fine with 4.10s and 35, I am running a 4.10s with 37s, no complaints about torque at all, traction is more of the issue.

Although it certainly can't hurt to have a little more gearing with an OD trans.

A 700R4 with a big block on the other hand, is asking for trouble. I would go TH400 or 4L80E.

Unless you will be doing a lot of rock crawling those gears will be fine, I have a free version of my app that calculates RPMs, gears, tire size, etc. It also calculates static compression.

Would like to keep the OD from the 700R4 and the 4L80E opens up more electronic control. I'm thinking I'm gonna clean up the 700R4 and see what it gets me. Worst case, drop it again and swap in something new. It seemed to run fine. I think the 40's taxed it a bit and the 35's should help. I never drove it with the 35's except around the block. I planned to buy a new Transmission so keeping the 700r4 will help with other toys I want

I like that plan. I have a 700R4 behind the big block in my '70 K10. It has 48K on it so far. Yes it has some good parts that were added back in 1998 when it got built, and I don't beat on it mercilessly. Just play around every so often. It has 4:56 gears and 35's.
