4x4 Camaro JUST A THOUGHT?

if you do it right it will look nice :D

no, it wont look nice. but, if you do it right, it will only look like a partial abortion, as opposed to a full abortion. trars are gay.

chevyguybc, are you the same guy whose truck is built on a shortened Burb chassis?

Not practical...

I had a 1972 Chevelle station wagon that was mounted on a 69 K10 Suburban chassis ,I bought it in 1989 from a friend who got the car in FL,it had a mint body, but was originally a 250 six powerglide "stripped" model, with NO options,no AC,eved had a factory "radio delete" plate covering the hole in the dash!..he did the 4x4 conversion, after I bought it I added a 1973 454 motor from an Impala, and numerous other "upgrades"...

It was tastefully done, and built to be road legal in NH,which had some rather strict rules on such vehicles..he added Chevy Vega bumpers under the OEM ones to meet the height regulations, and used all 10 of the original Chevelle body mounts to the frame, and modified the chassis length to match the wheelbase, and mounted the body so it sat very close to the frame,to avoid that "slapped together" ghetto look..by law,its doors could not be more than 25" from the ground..

The car was a lot of fun, drew lots of attention!--it was a chick magnet, and guys would flip at car shows I brought it too....and it would go anywhere, and climb any hill you pointed it at..but after I owned it for 6 years,it began to lose its appeal..

I had a harder time getting an inspection sticker every year (no one wanted to risk losing their inspection licence for giving such a non-stock vehicle an inspection sticker)..and cops watched me like a hawk everywhere I went with it..and often pulled me over or drove up while I was parked, and asked to see my registration, and how I'd gotten it on the road and insured..I sold it in 1995...I do miss it,but don't miss the hassles of inspections ,and being pulled over in it..

I've seen a 69 Camaro, and a 69 GTO,an 80's Malibu, and many other 4x4 "conversions"...they all were decent looking, but I don't think a classic muscle car should be wasted for such a conversion..the guy who built my Chevelle did it to be different..he'd seen lots of El-Caminos converted over the years, and wanted something similar, but could haul more people to car shows and swap meets..I bet it would be VERY difficult to get such a vehicle inspected around here now..--so before I'd go converting anything else,I'd make sure it was not going to only be legal as an "off road only" toy..pretty costly "toy"...I would like a Chevy van with a 4x4 conversion though!

From what I've seen most 4x4/offroad guys snicker at home made conversions that use car bodies. Now the street car crowd thinks its a crime to strip a 69 Camaro or GTO of its performance drive-train.

Just my 2 cents

Jeff

Here on the (pismo) dunes I regularly see a 67 el camino and two 69 camaro's, all three 4x4's sportin 38-40's. :D
Sorry, but these cars are to rare and too nice to be turned into a mudder. I would restore those cars if I had them. I guess I have too much respect for muscle cars.

Eh, Mudder, Dune Hopper, Rock crawler, same difference. You still shouldn't go wheelin in a Camaro or El Camino or GTO or any muscle car for that matter.

theres a couple around up here too.

They look like ASS.

The friggin hoods are 36 feet long.............. vision sucks

but whatever turns your crank. You'll just end up being "that guy"

I had a pic of that red older camaro.. lifted and a guy with a mullet in the passenger seat.... looked good....

only pic i have now is a

nooooooo

The firebird pic made it click. Its way too difficult to lean out the window to look at tire placement, from a Trar. No storage space either.:haha:

In my opinion the time, money and effort used to build this "trar" would get you a very capable full size trail rig. Just my .02. But if it makes you feel good do it.

I wanted to mount a 24 carrot gold helicopter on a blazer frame, the cool bubble kind like on M.A.S.H. ,,this way, when you hit an obsticle , instead of using the locker you can just turn on thr propellers maaaan.:rotfl: j/k

My thoughts on Camaros on Blazers frames, i wouldnt do it, but to each his own.:D

What would anyone think of a 90 camaro RS put onto a 75' K10 Frame. Ive got all the pieces to do it and i was wondering if anyone has pics of 4x4 cars?

Not trying to be negative but you asked what we thought...... Hell NO ! Just because it is possible does not make it right - think of it like fat chick's wearing spandex , it's just wrong.
There have been a couple of local red-necks around here that have put "F" bodys on Blazer frames and not one person that I know has ever said " Man that looks cool" or " THAT, is a great idea" . The owners of those so called creations catch hell at every 4x4 event and thier only response is that they were trying to be different - well they certainly achieved that..........in a very bad way among the 4x4 crowd.
Please help our hobby grow in social standings - don't do it .

Has anyone tried that with a Ford Tempo yet? I saw a Dodge Omni once, and it looked horrible. But it seems if I choose a chassie with an engine small enough to fit in the Tempo Engine compartment, maybe cut out the fenders, maybe it would work. At least I wouldn't be wasting a Camaro. Then I would have two 4x4s, my Cherokee, and a Tempo
