4x4 Sport Quad

Changed the oil and it was nasty and sludgy but wet clutches will do that.

New oil filter, oil, spark plug, air filter, carburetor, fuel filter, fuel shutoff valve rebuilt, she fired up first push of the starter. No smoke. Revs nice and easy. Need to tweak the carb a bit as a quick stab on the throttle causes it to bog but an aggressive ramp up is perfect. Payday is Thursday and it’s getting new tires.

The real exciting part is that now my wife and son, my daughter, and I all have running quads and so spring break we are heading out for our first family wheeling trip!

Awesome to hear!
Make sure the accelerator pump is working and the linkage is rolling on it right. It’s been a while but I remember a cam, ramp, wheel thing pushing the pump down. You can get it close but there may still be the bog if you stab it quick. Higher compression helps with that :) There is also a plunger in the side that should be cleaned and o-ring oiled, it helps with sharp on/off throttle movements.

If memory serves lol

Thats what I was going to look into. You can put a valve stem cap between the plunger and arm which takes up some slack between the two and helps it.

VP racing fuel was $7 a gl at KOH. Non alcohol hi octane, just like the stuff we got from the pump in the good old days

I've had alot over the years. Grizzly 600, grizzly 700 (wifes), rode a raptor 660, then a 700, couple warriors, then owned a 700, then got a new 700 in '13, sold that to get a G2 Renegade 1000. That got totaled and got a '15 XXC renegade 1000, sold it after getting the house in '17. Now I have an '18 Outlander 1000 XXC, and won't be selling it anytime soon, if at all. I've prolly never have anything but Can Am's, cause nothing else comes close. The outlander and renegade are the same basic machine, but renny is sportier looking, and the outty is more of a work machine. But only real difference is the plastics. Either one will smoke bout any quad out there. The raptor 700s are fast, but a renny or outty will spank em. And they are 4wd. Not quite as nimble as one, but once get used to it can toss it around just like one. Wheely's are simple, sorta, just hit the gas and hang on. Mine isn't stock, it will just spin the tires. Dirt or pavement doesn't matter. Kinda hard to put 100 horse to the ground....

Maybe one day but I’m not dropping that kinda coin at the moment. If I do though it’ll be a Polaris scrambler 1000. The can am’s look great and solid machines. Just a Polaris fan.

Everything is stupidly overpriced. I've had a Poolaris, and will NEVER own one again. Biggest pile of shit I ever owned. Anyone that has one has had nothing but issues with them. Seen one where the frame broke in half. But, whatever you look, your the one paying for it lol....

We’ve had nothing but Polaris for nearly 20 years and they’ve been nothing but solid for us. Sportsman, xpress, couple of rangers. Hunting, farm use, and wheeling. Can’t complain.

Ive got a can am renegade xxc. It's crazy fast for a 4x4 quad and turns well considering it's size / weight. I haven't hand any issues with it, although where I live there aren't that many places to ride it. I'd get one again even though there's a Polaris dealer right by my house.

Good luck with the new quad !

I pay $10 per gallon for non ethanol 101 at the ONE place I can get it reliably. wish i could find it for less, but not having to rebuilt destroyed carbs and fuel petcocks every 6 weeks is still a MAJOR improvement over paying 5 bucks a gallon for the al gore pump gas special that actual DOES ruin everything in 6 weeks.

Ya. I checked them when I got home and discount had them at 35psi haha. That picture is at 5psi. Ambush rear and hole shot front. I wanted to stick with 22” tall in the back given the places I ride and ITP didn’t make the holeshot in a 22, just a 20.

They are fun and reliable.
Once you crave more, 10.5:1 standard bore piston, cam/springs, jetting, up 1 tooth on the trans sprocket. Still runs 91 all day long and really wakes it up. After that you’re flushing money down the toilet, just not a good enough starting platform to continue modding. Hell, I tapped into the clutch cover and added an oil cooler. Or you can find maybe a Wolverine oil filter cover with the cooler bungs on it. See, rabbit hole lol

I need to get the carb dialed in as it spits a bit at low rpm but when it comes alive, it comes alive hard. Pulled the front wheels on one pull. Had to stop riding to do suburban people sports stuff but I’ll be back on it tomorrow.

I miss the warrior i had. Bought a new one in 2000. Did a White Bros. exhaust. air filter and jetting. Dropped tires to 20s, and would pull the wheels in every gearing shifting. But, doens't even come close to what a Renegade or Outlander 1000 does lol....

I’m fairly certain I need to tweak the accelerator pump but not certain. There is no gap between the arm and plunger on this new carb. The old one has a small gap. A quick throttle stab and it dies. Roll into it and it’s fine and it pulls hard. I’m wondering if it’s squirting too soon.
