Hey guys,

Just a heads up, all the powerbuilt and other house brand (masterpro or something) tools are 50% off at kragen/schucks/checker right now.

It sounds like this is part of the switch over to Orilley's, im guessing a switch to their house brand.

I know their sockets/wrenches etc aren't top shelf, but i bought a bunch of adapters, etc for cheap. Also, specialty automotive tools like strut/spring compressors, axle locknut sockets, etc.

Anyways, if your local store isn't doing it today, it will start in the next few days.

Worth checking out!

Thanks, Actually some of the powerbuilt stuff I have is really pretty decent. I will check it out for sure.

My Kragen location has got to do this soon, i had to drive to teh next town to get what i got.

What specialty tools do ppl use a lot from here?
From there, i have the steering wheel puller, steering wheel lock ring tool, PS pulley puller, axle sockets (forgot to return in the rental period:doah:), some larger socket set i used for ball joints, um....i think thats it.

I have a ball joint press from harbor freight.

What else should i pickup while its on sale? Like i said, i got the spring/strut compressor, a belt hook tool (hadn't ever seen one, and it was $5:haha:), brake pad compressor thing (<$5).

Hate to miss the sale and buy some specialty tool the week after when i need it.

Thanks!

Ok, i lied, i dont want suggestions or i'll spend more :doah:

Just hit the local one, picked up
Metric and SAE Flare wrench sets ($10 ea)
Soldering Gun $8
Seal Pick set $2.50
Test light $2.50
Wobble extensions
Spark plug boot puller
Inline blow gun.

Psyched to try out the soldering gun. Friend of mine there said its pretty good, i wanted the $40+ weller one, but for as rarely as i solder connections, this should work for $8.

Here is my score.

5pc screw extractor set, the Square kind that works good. $4.99

gear puller $19.99

gear puller $9.99

large hone $14.99

small hone $7.99

distributor sockets $3.99

torque wrench $14.99

7pc double flare set $12.49

Trim removing tool $3.49

Two C clamps $4.99

Total with tax $112.92 :D I think I got a good deal. That said one guy bought $400 bucks worth of goods. This is the stuff I don't have in quality stuff like Snap On and rarely will ever even need it. But in a pinch when you need it, now I do.

Hmm, going to have to make a stop tomorrow as i could use a set of the square EZ-out extractors.

I don't normally buy cheap tool, but it is a good deal. Years ago I needed a large socked with 3/4 drive. I looked at a Snap On set. It was like 1300 bucks. I found a large set brand new Powerbuilt 3/4 socket set at the car show swapmeet for $80 bucks. I bought it and have only used a couple of sockets but love it. The breaker bar gets used from time to time though.

Went back for round two today :doah:. I needed a trail tool set and you cant beat 50% off. I cleaned out three local Kragens of their large C-clamps. Cant have too many c-clamps.

Dude, I'm soooo trying NOT to go back again.

They're switching to AC delco brand tools. I worked there until recently. They're good parts and have a great warranty. Well assumming you can get it validated. Ask them if they're selling their rental tool kits when you go in ;) or ask them "How much to rent ball joint puller loaner tool" and if it's 75 bucks it's half off too. Mine was.:D

Ad says creepers are not "discounted" 50% off which is true for the 40", but ask if they have 42" creeper. Its "clearanced" to 50% off. Also got the rolling cart with drawer 50% "clearanced" to $34. Best deal of the day though was ATV oil normally $5.79........clearenced to $0.07:eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1:. I bought the whole case for $0.84 LMAO!!!!

Ok, i got in on the deal and bought the Square extractor set, seal puller, and the Ford ignition module tool all for a cool $12.59.

Have to remember that i'm unemployed at the moment. Also i have a TON of tools already and i don't usually buy cheap stuff anyways except for some of the stuff that rarely gets used. Also some tools doesn't matter what brand you buy as they are all made by the same manufacturer.

I know your situation but I have a hard time with tools, and NOT buying them, especially when there 50% off :D. Good on you man. Priority and responsibility in inportant when your not working. Anything on the horizon if you don't mind me asking?

Nope, still nothing out there. One shop i gave a resume to back in January and met with him back then did call me a little over a week ago asking some questions about how i was employed before (wanted to know if i was working as an independant contractor). I'm pretty sure he is trying to throw numbers around in his head to either see if he can afford me (told him i needed $20.00-$21.00/hr when we first spoke and then he said that wasn't a problem) or trying to see if i would work as an independant contractor (i WILL NOT do that as it would mean no workers comp insurance would be needed for him AND i would have to deal with putting away enough money to pay my own taxes on the payroll). I just keep looking. My unemployment is due to run out near the end of March then i'm really screwed if i'm not working by then. My memebership here comes due march 11th so i may not be able to post beyond that.

If anyone's interested the Alltrade compressors are on sale, too. The sales guys didn't even know it until we asked, but a buddy of mine picked up the 30 gal for $150.

I'm a little weary of the quality, but I suppose time will tell.
