50% Off tools at Kragen

Nope, still nothing out there. One shop i gave a resume to back in January and met with him back then did call me a little over a week ago asking some questions about how i was employed before (wanted to know if i was working as an independant contractor). I'm pretty sure he is trying to throw numbers around in his head to either see if he can afford me (told him i needed $20.00-$21.00/hr when we first spoke and then he said that wasn't a problem) or trying to see if i would work as an independant contractor (i WILL NOT do that as it would mean no workers comp insurance would be needed for him AND i would have to deal with putting away enough money to pay my own taxes on the payroll). I just keep looking. My unemployment is due to run out near the end of March then i'm really screwed if i'm not working by then. My memebership here comes due march 11th so i may not be able to post beyond that.

Damn dude, thats brutal. Can you extend the unemployment? You may have to take a little less just to get started for now as long as it pays the bills. I feel for ya man. Keep up the search.

That sucks Scott. I didn't realize it's been that long out of work. I will agree with Rob though. You are a smart guy and sure yo realize that it is always easier to find new job when you currently have a job. Are your skills as a mechanist just for auto or does it include machinery and equipment too? ( construction equipment, etc.)

Unless Obama puts into effect another extension that would include my unemployment status then no it cannot be extended. I have searched the EDD website and if the original UI claim was before mid August of 2009 then those people DO get a federal extension but since i wasn't unemployed until September 16th i get ****ed.

I do understand that i am probably going to have to take a job making ALOT less just to have an income and at this time i have to do what i have to do. It really sucks because unemployment is only giving me about half of what i was bringing home (not too bad for sitting home doing nothing i guess) BUT when you figure that all the jobs i've seen only pay what unemployment is paying me currently AND taxes are going to come out AND i will have to commute that really brings on the suckage.

The whole extension thing is hard to figure out, but i think you are elligible for 2 6mo periods.....not just one. My understanding of the obama extension was for after that first year. Who knows, their website is horrible and geared towards the mentally challenged.....either way, i just hit my 6 months and "end" of my first 6 mo claim. The 2nd 6 mo is supposed to renew on its own, so i'll let you know when my "letter" comes in the mail

not sure how it is out in Cali, but here in Joysey I've noticed in the last decade that mom & pop type machine shops are gone... all motors are now coming in from the bigger, corporate stuff, Jasper (tho they've been awesome for me), Invincable, etc... just like mom and pop parts stores....

once again, Autozone, corporate, etc bring the ghey.... I'll shop at Napa forever, as opposed to using them, ever...

hope something decent turns up Scott.... :(

Can you build motors on the side and do side work for some money right now atleast? Any performance motor shops in the area need help? What is your welding capibility? Weld shops around the area? Just trying to think of something. :dunno:

Dam Scott, I'd say come to MI. it sucks here too, but good machine work is like a 2-3 month waiting list to get your sh!t done.....

Bringing this thread back on topic, I hope my local Kragen-O'Reilly will still have this sale going on when I get paid on the 3rd. I need some tools that they have.

I was told by my local Kragen that the sale was good until March 31st.

This thread is not making it easy to stay away from that sale damnit. Tool are one of those things I LOVE LOVE LOVE to buy. :doah: Admittedly I AM a tool adict.

i just got back from kragen. the tool aisle was untouched, but most of their rental tools were already gone. i really wanted a ball joint press.

heres my loot. i'm in it about $68.

i think this is a perfect opportunity for those who need to build up a set of trail tools.

I wanted those allen keys and hex sockets too!

The ball joint press from harbor freight is more than adequate for occasional use.

Pretty cheap with a coupin or on sale http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=38335
