Pic's are on first post. I took me 3 beers to figure it out but I got it.
........oh

:haha:

Thats sweet thats exactly what I want to do but I didnt know it would work that well! So the axle isnt moved back any? I don't have a whole lot left to trim and still have fenders so any movement back at all isn't gonna work. Now I see, you have the bracket its just not used.

And the shackle is in the same location as before? Why'd you switch to the diy4x shackle hanger then?

EDIT: From looking at your dshaft it looks like it might have moved the axle forward a little actually judging by the grease

I plan on giving the ORD HD shackles to my son for his truck so that left me with no upper bushings. I needed some kind of bushing for the upper so the DIY4X seemed the right choice. Plus it's just plain fun grinding and knocking rivits out.

So....did it move the axle forward any?

EDIT: oh ok never mind you did answer that: 1/4 in forward or so. It'd be nice if it were a little more but that works for me! I'm gonna do this in a couple days, I just got the springs and everything i need

How did you get it flat against the body mount? I'm doing the same thing and got the hanger off and placed it against the body mount and lined up the front holes with the front holes of the mount to see where i'd have to drill. And because of the slight curve of the hanger it can't be flat against the body mount. Did tightening down the bolts move everything enough that it made it flat? Or am i doing something weird?
I can get pics too if you dont know what I mean

When I had the lower part of the hanger off I put it in my press and "pressed" the curve out of it. For the body mount I just reshaped it flat with a BFH... gently mind you. It took a bit of try and fit but I got both flat. I toyed with the idea of creating a double convex spacer to go in between both pieces but that was a lot of work compared to reshaping both pieces.

Ok good, I'm not crazy and didnt do something weird. I guess I'll do the same then, thanks! :D

I guess I need to find someone with a better press, I tried it with my friends neighbors press and it kinda moved it but not really. If I had a torch I could heat it up first, or if I had my own press I oculd mess with it more, if only I had the right tools....:doah:

My press is homemade out of 3" C channel and uses an old bottle jack I had laying around. I set the part curved surface down and placed an 1 11/16" socket (my biggest) inside the hanger. The press had no trouble squashing the part flat. Instead of a socket and old bearing race would work. maybe use a floor jack and press the hanger up against the bottom of the diff?

Well, Ill try again. This was with a 30 ton bottle jack for the press. You would think that would ahve done it :doah:
