57 Pontiac "Zero Fox"

Very sad story Martin. So sorry to hear about your friend.

Transmission showed up, in perfect shape thanks to Heath!

So, the trans doesn't come with a shifter, or knob, or boot. I vaguely recall buying a floor shifter kit for the three speed manual many years ago.

Sure thing I did, was able to find it in the newly cleaned garage and the dang thing fits the TKX just fine!

I think I might just run the 3 speed pattern ball because it amuses me to do so. lol

Oh...I just set the end of the shifter on the floor for a rough feel. I think it'll be just fine. Zoomad posted a pic earlier of a bench seat 57 with a floor shifter and that's about exactly how it looks in my car just resting it on the floor.

Leave the three speed knob on it for sure. Make people ask questions if they actually pick up on that absurd little detail.

I can snap a pic of the hurst competition plus shifter in our Nomad real quick. They need a good bend to clear the bench seat in 2nd and 4th.

Naturally the seat is ALL the way back. So the bend isn’t as important but you get the idea.

Dad couldn’t bring himself to throw screws into the floor for the Hurst super boot. 5A31D3BA-E849-4D82-977A-1B0B83F401BA.jpeg

It seems to me that you should shake the cobwebs out of the old mans car. Just saying....

Oh hell yeah. It’s going to take some effort. All 4 tires are split and the car is up next to the wall on the driver side. I’m pretty sure all it needs to run is an oil change, battery and focking with the carb. Only saving grace to the hibernation is that the fuel don’t have an ounce of ethanol in it.

The old Nomad club members we ran into yesterday with their cars really hit me. It has to be done.

Though I’m concerned about the single pot master and 4 wheel drum brakes needing complete work. That’s where I spiral into a what if realm. Why screw with fixing antique brakes? Just get a disc kit. They have them now that use the stock drum spindle and it does not change the track width like the earlier kits did. But what about the suspension? It’s maddening.

Probably just need to do what you’ve done on the Poncho. Get parts coming and stockpiled now. When I’m ready I can just get stuff done.

At the risk of sounding way too serious, my biggest "what if" is this:

What if I wake up ten years from now and I still haven't built this car? Do I want to be 67 before starting? 77? Dead?

I'm committed to this, and in the shortest time frame I can manage without hitting the lottery. I told my wife I was going to sell my quad, and every cent was going to car parts. It just sold for $11,900. It's a start...

I told you you’d get 12 for it. Good for you Rene! :waytogo:

I totally agree with your mindset. I want to Cruise the Nomad with my Dad, not in memory of him. So it’s going to get safely functional and then upgrades can come.

Had a local buyer that wanted it for under 10K. They were going to come today. Whilst they were dithering an enthusiastic dude from Saskatoon called me, with his mouth, and told me my price was actually a little low...and that he'd be happy to pay full ask price if I could hold it a few days. Money talks, bullshit walks. Minutes later there was $500 in my bank from him, and the first dude got the bad news.

For perspective, I bought this quad in May 2018 for $11,500.
