57 Pontiac "Zero Fox"

Agreed, and the main reason I'm leaving it. Foxed with the throw out bearing for a while, but got it dialed. Got the bell and trans installed.

Pressure plate..

Starter, motor mounts, fuel pump and it's going in...at least for long enough to figure out where the hole in the floor needs to be. Then cut hole and throw it back in.

Trans looks great with the engine, looks like a lot of fun together!

Do you have replacement sheetmetal for the front already? If not it seems like a prime candidate for a fiberglass front piece, would shed a lot of weight, might even cost less?

There are options..

I have two sets of front fenders, two hoods, one good front bumper, one poor/fair front bumper, enough grill parts. I do find the Pontiac grill and bumper assembly to be kludgy looking. Not a fan of the rear either. I think a '56 chev rear bumper would fit the car, and look a lot cleaner.

The front I have some ideas but hard to explain without physically mocking it up and showing pics. It's a Cheviac, so I don't care about mixing in a bit more Chevy stuff. :dunno:

I know Rene don’t give two fox what anyone thinks… I think it looks “three tits “just the way it’s is! That is my personal ultimate best complement I can give! :waytogo:

I only use that on things that I really like.
I like the balance of colors :waytogo:
I don't care about brand color, I am an architect so I just look at it with no bias

The vaunted "three tits" review...I'm honored!! :saweet:

So the Energy suspension motor mounts are about 0.080" narrower than the CPP frame side mounts. That was super annoying, but by foxin with both sides a little here and there they fit now. I dunno if I got the wrong parts, or if it's an aftermarket fox up...either way, it'll work now.

Next up was measuring to see where the hole in the floor was gonna be for the shifter. As it was, the shifter was going to be up against the front of the bench seat. I di have the seat a little far forward, but that is the point. A few minutes with a 10 mm wrench and the shifter is now 3" farther forward on the trans...it's in the middle position now. Super easy to do! :waytogo:

I may have missed this point but you did budget some for throwing some better brakes on this beast right? I'd hate to see that vintage Indian get wrinkled up again because you got all the GO but no Whoa!

I figured you did but might have missed it with all the drivetrain porn you've been posting.

It'll be getting disc's up front and a Wilwood dual master, staying with manual brakes. It'll be good to get rid of the ball bearing set-up up front too.

Engine is 90% in, and the last 10% might kill me. lol. Good news is the hole I cut for the shifter is money. Bad news is the engine tilter has foxed me, is trapped against the firewall etc. I got to that point where it's just best to walk away for the day and come back to it fresh. What I can say for sure is I am damned glad I got mounts that push the engine 3/4" forward. Holy fox it is tight to the firewall! Pics and stuff tomorrow. I gotta be at work in 4 hours. lol

It's always the last 10% that is the pain. Good plan on the brakes too.

Bummer on the engine tilter foxing you up at this point. You got a lot done otherwise.

OK, well I managed to unfox the engine tilter after some messin around. What a debacle...I really thought I had more than enough room to work with seeing as I had the CPP "3/4" forward" mounts and this car could get a sbc in stock form. I ended up having to remove the vacuum wiper motor and some other shifty stuff, then re-jig the lifting apparatus. Then I had to work a 6 day week, and that really cuts into wrenching time!!

Finally I was about to get this engine bolted into the car, a real milestone moment!! Except the Energy Suspension motor mounts I bought were wrong. :doah: Turns out there are two styles, tall and narrow, and short and wide. I got the first, and needed the second. CPP should have made a noteto save dummies like me from finding the wrong mounts.

So, I got the shorter mounts bolted up and the damn thing still wouldn't quite drop down into the towers. Energy Suspension has these pre-load plates...but with them installed it was no go. I had a good look at how the mount was constructed and the poly etc. I then made an executive decision and left the plates out.

Finally I was rewarded and able to get the ARP bolts through the whole assembly officially marrying the engine to the car.

Money shot!!

It is super tight at the firewall. Getting the distributor cap on is a real trick...valve covers have 1/2" clearance.

In todays order I also got some "Neighbor Haters"
