57 Pontiac "Zero Fox"

Absolutely no way in hell would I ever get a axle to stand up on a paint can like that in my garage.

Murphys law would dictate: "that's not going to happen you stupid F☆☆K. I'm making that axle fall over As soon as you turn your back once the finish coat was on."
I thought the same thing.

Was remarkably stable...once it was horizontal on jackstands and I was wresting the center section in, that's when it fell. :haha:Thankfully it's all made of reclaimed meteorite and unobtanium so only scratched the paint in one small area.

Note to past self, three jackstands are a better idea than two when installing the center section...

Where does the shoe end up on the surface? And does the backing plate need the support of the "sandwich" the retainer plate makes?
The outer edge of the shoe ends up 1/8"-3/16" from the inside edge of the drum, plenty of clearance. I don't believe the backing plate needs the "sandwich"...now it's just like drum brakes on a C clip axle. :dunno:

My kids would bump it while fighting over a bike or some other toy.

Don't envy, enjoy those years when it's all about kids and their stuff. Fun times!! :waytogo:

We have a separate 10x10 shed with a mezzanine for lawn and garden stuff, bikes and stuff in the basement. The shed does have some car parts in it too though. lol.

I kid mostly.

We are a free(ish) weekend away from dragging everything out and selling several bikes, strollers, and other things they’ve outgrown.

I’d mainly like to be able to work in the 3rd bay without dragging everything out after threading my way through all the stuff.

So, my Calvert Racing Mono-leafs showed up. I was a little surprised, because the pic on Summit showed split mono-leafs, but regular mono leafs showed up. I'm not too mad, good quality mono leafs are just fine...but this isn't the first time Summit has got the pic wrong, or misleading.

I got some time out there last night, and put my new DeWalt "mid torque" impact to work. I fully expected to have to cut the U-bolts, and all the spring bolts. That impact is a beast though, rattled off the u bolt nuts, and the front spring eye bolts no problem. Could not touch the impact socket after though, it was hot enough to burn you.

Got back at it early this morning and ran hardlines for the rear brakes on the new diff, wrestled the old diff out of it's old home and then spent a while getting the old springs out of there. You can really tell this car only spent 8-9 years on the road and the rest inside a garage. Even the swpring bushings were in decent shape still, and with a bit of prying I was able to get them out without fire or other destructive means.

As tempting as it is to sling the new diff under there, I have some shit work I want to get done first. Mostly scrape and paint while I have the room and access. Should have it under the car tomorrow. Cal-Tracs and some other stuff should be here next week. I should be able to measure for a driveshaft by next weekend!

Pics tomorrow!

He sent me the list this morning

I questioned his lack of punctuation. It may have been s*** and work, or s***work

Probably accurate either way

I wanted the summer to shake it down, I guess it's still spring for another 6 weeks...so we'll just have to see where things are at then. I just don't want to be one of the many that show up at Drag Week only having got the car "done" a day or two before.
