57 Pontiac "Zero Fox"

A-adulting sucks.

B-it sounds MEAN!

It does have a mean chop to it, but to be fair it was dead cold in the vid so running rougher than once it's warmed up. I don't have the choke wired yet, so I just adjusted it "open". I'm really hoping it's not so loud as to be a heat score...but I kind of think it will be. They very recently have been cracking down on loud exhaust here. For sure they are mainly focusing on the Harley's, and some of the rice with the megaphone fart cans. A lot of it is how you drive...

To put it in perspective, my wife and daughter will both cover their ears if they know I'm about to start it and they're in the garage.

Worst case I will pick up some V bands and a second set of mufflers. Some 3" turbo mufflers would be a lot quieter but probably still sound good.

Might drone a lot, but will be just a temporary thing

I was thinking it was a lofty idea, going all the way to the southeast, but excited to see you make it happen.
I fully support you pulling back under the circumstances though. There are so many D&D events now, you could pick and choose one more suitable for your region (RMDW?)
engine sounds really good (I believe 3 tits was mentioned) and the cig lighter is tits on its own merits!
good luck Rene’

We don't blame you. I learned quite a while back that two things take the fun out of it for me. Racking up debt you have to pay off later, or thrashing to get it done for a trip deadline. Either one of those can take the fun out of the build and ruin it for you, so I vowed not to do either again years ago. Sounds like you were approaching both, go at your own pace.

I haven't even started my own project yet I'm so far behind.

Car sounds awesome and I dig the starter button!

Coming from a man who has had his hands on more Teats than anyone I know...that's a compliment! :haha:
Fair enough Rene. :haha::doah:

But in actual fact “ not that my opinion matters “ I don’t give out Three tits ratings willy nilly. They have to be epic.

Love everything about that car. You’re doing an outstanding job on it.

Clearly I haven't been working on the 57 much. So the answer was a companion to keep it company while it sat in my garage...so a 52 Pontiac Fleetleader Special followed me home. Absolute base model, just like the '57.

Sometimes you just can't say no. Saw this online locally, been owned by the same guy since 1984, and he finally acknowledged he was never going to do anything with it. He was only asking $1200 for it, so I dragged my wife over there with me to check it out. Really complete, and typically filthy but pretty solid. Looks like a repaint or two, and the last one they added a skim of filler over a lot of the car, even though it doesn't seem like it needed it. It's fairly solid, floors are present although in need of repair. We'll see what we do with those later.

while checking it out the dude could not get the hood open, but assured me it was complete. I asked him if he'd take $1000 for it based on the hood not opening so I couldn't actually check it out. He agreed and here it is. Hood took me a few minute of focking around to get it open, but it was as described, complete right up to the oil bath air cleaner. Engine is currently stuck, but I have it soaking. It's a 239 flathead 6...

That things sweet!

That was my reaction too. Another Canadian Pontiac, which is a hodge podge of Chevy and Pontiac stuff. Body is mostly Chevy, but with Pontiac trim and hood ornament. Engine is the Pontiac flathead 6.

The 57 scratches my itch for a tire melting Hot Rod, Drag and Drive car. The 52 will hopefully scratch my itch for old, cool and stockish. Doesn't need to be fast...

I can’t tell from the angle of the pics but is that the fastback/sloper body?

Awesome score either way. Congratulations!

It's the regular sedan style...like this:

Still cool. That’s an under-appreciated generation of cars. Post war but pre 1955 never gets the love the earlier or later stuff gets. They do have their own issues like the enclosed driveline.

I think they are cool though. My dad had ‘49 or ‘50 business coupe for his first car. For some crazy reason he fitted it with dual shift levers. I guess he did it to see if he could.

The extra trim on the Pontiac is really different and makes it very unique.

One of the reasons I bought this was because I have drivetrain options depending on what can be revived. The trans is out of the car, and was on the front seat. PO said it was either rebuilt, or needed rebuilt. A child could see it hadn't been rebuilt...but I did get it onto the workbench to see what I could see. Shifter forks were pretty froze up, so I pulled the side cover. No oil inside the trans, but no rust, or debris or anything bad. Everything moved freely...so I dunked the side cover assembly in a mix of Yama-lube and ATF. Just a pair of oils from my shelf that weren't going to be used for anything important. Didn't take long to get the shift forks moving properly again and in short order I was able to shift the trans through three forward and one reverse gear without issue. So, I suspect it may have had a clutch issue now? We'll see soon enough, but the trans is just fine IMO.

The enclosed driveline thing is weird, I have to do some research yet. I do have the 261 OHV engine, three speed trans, and rear end left over from the 57 if it comes to it...but I will see if I can just get it back together stock first. I also have a 350 sitting in the corner that could get a dingle ball rebuild.

I also need to research on the 6 volt thing a bit too. This is my first 6 volt car...

I have seen the dual shift lever thing done before at a buddy's place on a '51 Chevy 2 door hardtop. I fail to see any advantage, other than the linkage can't get stuck between the gates.
