Re: 57\" rear spring Q\'s

Ill have 57 front, and 63" rears unless i go coils, but that wont be til the mog's get here, may be a few months, like fall /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif no that pic is without flex, flex brings em' closer.

Re: 57\" rear spring Q\'s

So under normal driving. The shackle will still be straight up and down. How would you determine the length of shackle you would need. I have quite of bit of axle wrap with my stock shackle. I am guessing some form of traction bars would be neccessary?

Re: 57\" rear spring Q\'s

willy----------so running 57's in the front im going to lose my lift /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

sitting flat the setup will look just like the pic, you cant take out a short one and install a longer one without it actually being longer /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif you will need the longer shackle or move the hanger back.

Re: 57\" rear spring Q\'s

If you move the hanger back will that cancel out the whole point of a longer spring (flex wise)? Does anyone have pics of the 63 inch or 57 incj without the springer setup. Maybe with a shackle flip also. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Re: 57\" rear spring Q\'s

i should have said accomedating " the travel of "the springs. a stock 4" shackle is a joke to try and run with a soft spring like the 57's or 63's.

Re: 57\" rear spring Q\'s

this will sound dumb... why what?
in regaurds to "two different animals"?

he was talking about doing a flip but then states front lift. the front set up is the right way. theres other issues with running fords up front that I can list if people are thinking of going that route.

Oh and I have springs off a 77 and a 94 on mine, only difference is the 94's have teflon pads.

Re: 57\" rear spring Q\'s

" a stock 4" shackle is a joke to try and run with a soft spring like the 57's or 63's. "

i dont understand why

Re: 57\" rear spring Q\'s

if you were to run a 4" shackle with those springs you will have almost zero flex.

as the spring compresses it flattens out and becomes longer (closer to the goal of 57 and 63) and as the spring droops it becomes shorter and pulls away fromt he rest postion bringing the shackle forward. if you have a long shackle it'll match that travel arch. if it was a short shackle it will max out way before the spring is done doing it's thing.

Re: 57\" rear spring Q\'s

With an Echobit flip, longer shackles, and the 5 leaf pack of 57's and running no top, I got about 5" of lift in the rear.
Here is my shackle angle...

Ah Ha the blind man now sees the light! I understand it better now!
Thanx,

Re: 57\" rear spring Q\'s

I used the ord flip and a "low rider shackle" and with the stock fords I got 7" of lift. theres a pic of mine in members gallery.

Re: 57\" rear spring Q\'s

ORD flip (driver on passenger's side and vice versa) moved back 2" on the frame rails. 1" ORD "zero-rates" and stock shackles. Ended up like this:

Ride height w/ no top ended up matching my 4" BDS front lift.

And I had mucho-articulation out of the rear, even with the stock shackle. Way more than my shocks (in stock position) could accomodate.

I toasted my first set of springs first time out. So, I got some of the Auto-zone clamps to help control the wrap I was getting from the springs. I don't have a part #, but they were on the shelf next to the lift/lowering blocks in my store.

Re: 57\" rear spring Q\'s

They are 2.5" spring clamps. They are in the suspension center of AZ. I wrote the part number down for you, but couldn't find it when I got home. I think it was 82390 but that may not be right. Beer turns the brain to mush.
