6.0L swap... What should I look for?

Ok, cool. I kinda remember you saying that some time. I'd love to meet up and see your rig one day, maybe when i get the brakes sorted out on the burb.

The anti theft is my own custom touch on reworking the harness.. Basically if you want to put in some hidden switches like my buddy did or hook it into an alarm system, i can wire it up to kill different things.. starter , ign. , fuel pump , coils.

Factory front 02 sensors from the donor vehicle.
Rear 02s deleted.

F-body headers. I hacked them up, and had to modify thte collectors on both of them, as they dump right into the shackles on these trucks.
Then i plugged the air and egr tubes by, and relocated both 02 sensor bungs in the headers at the 12 o clock position to clear the frame.

What program are you using to tune these?

I have a friend flash the computers with HP tuners.

Great info man...

I'm gonna have to get it reffed so I'll be keeping the stock y pipe. I'm looking at a cadillac escalade lq9... Any idea on how the stock y pipe will fit my 88 blazer? I don't recall my last smog inspection including the guy checking the y pipe but maybe I found a lazy ref.

Also I'm assuming I'll need the fuse block from the donor truck right?

I've got a line on a lq9 for $2000. Now I'm just trying to narrow down what the final cost would be. Factoring in the canister, adapters, y pipe, anti theft delete, and another other extras needed, can it be done for under 2500?

I cant see the stock y-pipe clearing at all. There are also certain trucks/versions that only have one set of cats and some have 4. My 07 3/4 chevy classic had the 6.0 and just one set of cats.

Also the 6.0 out of the van should have a mechanical throttle body even after they changed the trucks and suv's over to drive by wire.

My bro works at LKQ (largest auto dismantler in the US) and now he says he can get me all the accessories for free. So thats 1400 for everything but the harness, pcm, and canister with about 40k on it.

I was looking at the van motors but from what I've seen they are all lq4's (325 hp version). I've got my eye on the lq9.

Does anyone have a lq9(vortec maxx 345hp) in their rig? Hows the power and gas mileage?

you need to get one complete with the harness and ecm. Most yard will sell them all together . Your asking for headaches and to be nickel and dimed otherwise.

I've had trouble finding a complete one since the first thing yards do is pull the starter, ac, dizzy, alternator, pcm, and cut the harness.

I don't mind buying a harness and computer. Shouldn't be too expensive or hard to find. They priced a complete motor out at 2400 before... with my bro's help I get everything I would have got on a complete motor minus the harness and pcm for 1400. Everything else would be there.

Can't find ANY local yards that'll sell one turnkey/complete. They don't have them. I've looked online and can't find a much better deal even without shipping included.

talk to ryan then. Its nto that hard to find these im telling ya.

ebay

there are options and lots of them. the problem with not getting one complete is you can get sold or mailed the wrong wrong computer, if you dont get the o2 sensors they are 80.00 each.. someone might not include the maf sensor..they can be over 200.00 easily new. Post an add on craigslist saying you are looking for one. i did and got multiple calls on my add. There was even a guy selling the drive train out of an 06 chevy to build a prerunner and I could have drove it first for just 1800.00 with 31k.

Will do....

I figure I'm still ahead of the game even if it's missing a sensor or two but I'll be able to look at the motor before I buy it so I'll know what I'm gonna be getting if I go through LKQ. I can get an ecm and harness from the same yard most likely for free. Since my brother works there it makes a lot of sense to go through them. They are also waiving the 300 dollar core charge. Basically I'd be getting a 2400 motor for 1400 assuming all the sensors are there.

As of right now that is the best deal I've found. I'm not ready to pull the trigger on anything though as I still have to pull my old motor and sell it.

What did you pay for yours? Where did you get it from? What rpo was it?

Just trying to get an idea of reasonable price. I've noticed the lq9's are on the pricey side of the gen 3's but not unreasonable. They come with more power and beefier internals then the lq4.

I'll be sure to put an add on craiglist... ebay was all 5.3's and lq4's. Lq4's are VERY easy to find. Lq9's are harder... especially complete with under 50k. Only came standard in 2002-2006 escalades and 2003-2007 silverado ss. The rest where the vortec maxx option on chevy and gmc trucks.

Your in Phoenix which is ALOT bigger then Redding. Not as many options here. I'll make some calls down to sac and see if I can come up with anything. By the time I add shipping and the cost of the accessories I'd be getting for free here it's not looking like I'll find a better deal from a yard. Maybe a personal seller.

... PM me. Don't know if thats a yes or no but when you are getting ready to buy one I'll see what I can do.

Harnesses are rare in yards since most just cut the wires and yank the motor but if I get a hold of them before they pull it then I can get a complete one with computer.

I've heard these things will light up 35's.... great low end torque. Anyone have a video of a c/k truck with a 6.0l in it?

just my opinion, the lq4 is a terrific platform to start with, these motors have puled near 400 lbs/ hp in stock crate form according to a slew of magazines when they were offered as a crate motor from gm. A van is a wonderful place to find them and they are more commonly totaled at a low age/milage due to their lower value and many in stripped down fleet form.

These motors are far easier to work on that our common big block and small blocks we're most used to. A simple gm hot cam kit will wake this bad boy right up along with a tune. If you really want it to come alive the 6.2 heads are about 900.00 for a pair and have serious potential and can move enough air to support a 500 hp motor.

little cost I have seen with these..

reworked harness or a complete one can range from 300-800.00
long blocks can be had for 400-800.00
complete motors with acc seem to be at 1200-2400, deals are 900-1100
intake manifolds are perfect for our application and provide needed tq

ive seen used starters for 50.00, picked up spare alt for 50.00, used waterpumps for 50-75.00, mass air flow for 10.00-100.00

if you were to pick up a complete low mile 6.0 for 1400.00, then spend 300ish for a tune and harness rework, 40.00 for a vette reg, 200.00 for a decent fuel pump, 30.00 for a prepump filter.. 100.00 for line and fittings, 45-100 for air filter and piping or a fac air box, 45.00 for conversion motor mount plates, 40-250.00 for you crank spacer or flex plate/tq fix, then a couple hundred for exhaust rework..or more,

seems 3k is a easy budget to follow or plan for.

some odd ball thoughts are the frame notching needed or crossmember changes if any, and the fact that the radiator outlets are on the same side. I have a crossflow rod davis radiator so no worry for me on this. Overall I still say its an easy conversion with a cleaned up harness, just some a handful of details needed throughout the whole deal.
