6.0L swap... What should I look for?

do you mean shorten it or??????

If thats the case then I am sure of it. The 4l80 is not the same size as a 700r4
 
yeah... basically wondering if the 4l80e equals a trip to the driveline shop.

Still crunching numbers... Trying to get everything figured out before I get started. I could get a 6.0l and 4l80e combo and save some money if it's doable. It'd be nice to take torque management off and not have to worry about it.

My 700r4 is brand new with corvette shift kit. Not sure how long it'd live as I don't know what the corvette shift kit involves. I believe it's just a different servo and maybe higher pressure.
 
I'm sure the 4l80e is longer than the 700R4. I think 4WOR did an article on a 4l80e swap a while back....
 
Can a 8.1L's computer be re-flashed to work with a 4L80, and how much will the harness have to be modified to go from an Allison to a 4L80? Any good aftermarket harness's for this option?
 
Ok need some advice look through the articles listed very informative. This is the situation, I have a 1989 V1500 ordered my lift getting ready to swap rear axle and do 8 lug conversion in front. This just fell into my lap but seem to good of a deal to pass up, especially since I am going to need a engine replacement sooner or later. The donor motor is a 6.0 from a 2005 Chevy 1500 SS Dale Edition running great about 50,000 miles, buddy wants to sell to me for 700.00 including computer and wiring harness. Was'nt what I was looking into doin, but as fate would have it to good to pass up. Mechnical does not bother me, but the wiring and getting running does. I just don't want to get in over my head. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.:confused:
 
700? Snap it up. Most of those motors go for 1400 without ac pump, alternator, starter, computer, and harness.

Wiring isn't bad as long as you have patience and some free time. You might have to get your harness "reworked" depending on the rig. You"ll need to get the comp burned to get rid of the vts also.
 
seriously do it, the biggest hurdle is yourself and wrapping you mind around it.


-get motor
-decide what trans your going to run
-send out harness
-order or make motor plates
-order crank spacer, flexplate or torque converter
-hack or modify your frame to clear manifolds
-stab it in
-bolt it all up
-sending units for your oil and temp
-convert to a tbi gas tank or sending unit with a 65 psi pump in its place
-adapt your exhaust or have it done at a shop
-add two o2 sensors
-find a coolant hose solution to hook up to your radiator, or get a radiator
-install your wiring harness
-air filter or run a stock box off a truck



seriously with as little as a power wire to your starter and less that 10 wires your in business


-12 volt on
-12 volt ign
-tach signal out to tach
-power to fuel pump
-o2 sensors


get it, make a thread and ask questions as you go, once you have a reworked harness in your face a light goes on and you go..ohhhhh

Whats the going rate to get a harness reworked?

300-750 are the prices I see.


I paid the higher number, but it included some other stuff and he set it up on a engine stand and ran it for me and walked me through like a 5 year old till I understood every plug and its function.

ya, its double the money,and I did provide my own harness but I was able to have him bolt it all up and actually get to see it run before I took it home. This way when at home I am not at the mercy or someone doing their job right and having no idea if they did as I try to figure out why it does not run and have a cussing festival in my driveway.

It payed off for me as he also let me monkey around with getting the holes for my sendors , drilled, tapped and threaded, along with finding out if my motor even had good parts before i installed it and simply hoped it did. Turned out my water pump leaked and my number 5 coil had a mis. I was able to easily fix those things before installed it! We also ran a scope camera into the cylinder walls, pulled the valve covers, oil pan, cleaned my injectors and some other misc.

it was worth it.

Check with Speartech, he worked at GM for years and now he does aftermarket harness and PCM stuff. He's very reasonable as far as price and does a flat out awesome job on reworking a harness. I sent him a stock denali harness with a million wires and he reduced it down to only what I needed, changed the tranny wiring, and reduced a huge fuse block down to 3 fuses and 1 relay.

i run an lq4 6.0L in my flatbed tow rig. with a relatively stock tune, i put 89 octane in it and it tows fine no pinging.

when i ran an lq4 in my k5 it put down 265rwhp @4800rpm, & 313rwtq @ 4100rpm on a roller dyno..
and that was through a sm465 - np205 - 14ff - 4.56's - 37"mtrs then to the roller dyno.
buzzed it to 6200 and the tires to 140mph.:eek1: (everyone in the shop was running out/ducking for cover) :haha:
-assuming 30% drivetrain loss thats something like 375hp/440tq at the flywheel. not bad for a junkyard low compression 6.0l with long tube headers.. since they're factory rated at 325/380.

i run a high output escalade lq9 in my k5.
its an 02 longblock with an 04 isuzu npr wiring harness, running an 04 gto program. :crazy:
i ordered a custom grind cam from thunder racing 22x/23x @ .050 with .609/.604" lift. along with patroit gold dual valvesprings, TI retainers/keepers, and hardened pushrods.
i had it speed density tuned by rick @ synergy motorsports, awsome lsx tuner.
He worked his magic with a wideband 02 sensor and hp tuners while i drove around newark for a couple hours.. :crazy:
no new dyno numbers, however the butt dyno says a gain of 50 rwhp/tq going from the lq4 to an lq9 with a cam & full tune.
