Hello all I have an 82 k5 with the 6.2/th400/208, I’m not sure the gear ratio, came on decent 33s, I want remove the 6.2. I’m not sure if I want to do 6.0/4l80 or I was recently thinking a 4bt swap. I plan on using the truck for a Daily driver and towing a 3500lb boat. From I can tell they will cost around the same. But the 4bt would have a cool factor and few less things would need to be messed with considering the truck is already a diesel.
That being said, from what I can tell I can run the 400 behind the 4bt, or I could still go with the 4l80, but would need a different TC.

What do you guys think

FWIW I am very familiar with LS swaps, I’ve done quiet a few, and I’m pretty familiar with diesel applications, but not so familiar with diesel swaps

Thank you in advance

4bt is the noisy little brother of the b series who can't sit still.
It shakes too damn much and makes way too much noise for how little power it has.
Couple that with the power sucking th400 and you have a bigger turd than the 6.2.
Assuming it's an m1009, you're gonna need earplugs to tow or just drive it.
For power and drivability, the 6.0 and 4l80e are lightyears ahead.

I hadn’t even thought of that. I know they are too, driven plenty of them in aircraft tugs.

It’s not an m1009 though, it’s got silverado badging, power windows CC, it’s pretty well optioned. Although I haven’t researched the vin or anything.

I think you are right I’ll stick with what I know And run an LS,

Thanks !

You can use turbo setups pulled off of 6.5's. lot of people pull those out. I sold one myself a while back.
To do an LS swap infact lol.

I’ve had no luck finding them, if anyone finds one let me know!

Depending on the axle gear ratio and how you end up using the truck, you could swap a 6.0 in and keep the TH400 to begin with. That would get you away from an impending broken crankshaft and avoid a complete drivetrain swap up front.
The electric kick down on the TH400 should be under the dash on the pedal, so you would want to keep that working, but no extra electrical for the transmission with the engine swap.
Then you can drive it to see how it does and have plenty of time to plan a transmission swap later.

So… still haven’t gotten it running, looks like I need to run new battery cables, new batteries and maybe a starter I’m not getting enough juice at the starter but I haven’t really had time to dig into it.

I did however realize that I have a 700r4 not a th400 as I previously thought.

What do y’all think of that trans, either with a turbo set up or an LS swap?

Also we sold our boat so I won’t be towing with the blazer. FWIW

Thanks in advance.

I like the 700R4, HOWEVER it has to be built properly and have the TV cable set properly to maintain proper pressure.

Now, if you swap an LS into this, I would get an "E" transmission, whether it is a 4L60E or 4L80E because you can have the engine and transmission working better together when they are getting commands from the same TPS input.
