64" spring install questions

Yup, we (I) talked him out of spending more money on the flip.
The flip system works out great if really nice springs aren't in the budget but even a higher end flip/spring system like the setup on my 'burb (2.5" flip, 6" shackles, 3" TCI 64's) will only stroke 13" or so of vertical travel. A mild custom leaf pack with a tension shackle will run an easy 15" of vertical and I've designed springs that would put out near 20".
This makes bolting in just a spring look pretty good.

All this assumes mild lift heights, generally 6" and down.

Flattening a spring to bolt it in is not uncommon, we have used a jack under some heavy object to flatten them a little, then stick a spreader bar in there to install them. That works well for taking them off once they're on too. My first set of our springs had a 2x4 and a piece of 1" tubing dedicated to the job.

Surely the custom pack makes a huge difference over an off the shelf item, as well.

On another note, Im building a rear suspension for my pickup now. I'm using 3" 64" springs I got from you guys, a 4" flip and 7.25" shackles. Im planning on have a bit more than 13" of travel. Seems the shackle itself has 7.25 of total movement, with the brackets setup correctly.

I'm glad the ride quality worked out, that's always been my main priority, just getting around in the outdoors sucks if the truck's not comfortable. You can't even take a drive to watch the sunset and enjoy it with a buckboard spring set.

I've like the custom spring option just because they do ride nice and flex good and just bolt on but they start looking really good these days since they do most of what a coilover system will do for less than half price. Links and coils are still better and we should just stay out of that debate but nice leaves sit in a really nice position on the cost vs.performance curve, namely right before it goes vertical!
