64 Vette….Rebuild 2.0

Looks nice!

What were Kert's conditions for welding on a used fuel tank? Argon purge?

I couldn't get myself to do it.

First off, the tank was like new inside. No rust, residue, or sediment. I think keeping it in a controlled environment has a lot to do with that!
The filler neck is big enough to get your hand through, so I washed it out thoroughly with DAWN dish soap. Then dried it out with shop towels. Then I put a heat gun on low and let it run until the tank was very warm. When done you couldn’t smell even a whiff of fuel.
I wanted it very clean because I hauled it inside my car.
When I got to Kerts I cut out the old fittings and ground the metal down w a flap wheel, so there was plenty of sparks flying before he got to welding!

Why would one buy a car like this and only drive it 250 miles in 60 years?
Were they trying a new kind of investment, hoping to make 4 million out of a car?

That article felt like it was written by a robot or a non-native English speaker... my brain...

So its for sale for $4 million or it sold for 4 million? It doesn't really say, there may be a big difference....

I think that is asking price, as I haven’t seen anything higher than the 3.65mm for the red 67 in 2014.
A bit of back history on the L88 Vettes....in 1988, I went to the Bloomington gold show (if you don’t already know this is the highest level of Corvette judging for authenticity/originality) and two 68-69 L-88 Vettes sold in the 80’s...and people were dumbfounded. 67’s bring the highest prices, but those 68-69’s are in the 6-800k range now.

Right Martin!
20-67’s
80-68’s
116-69’s were factory built. Many more of those engines went out the back door at Chevrolet though to racers, and of course you could get a short block L-88 for less than $1000 back then!

Why would a 264 mile car need a full restoration? In my opinion, a nice original is worth more than restored. Only original once.

Nice parts car. Please tell me the 20" IROC wheels are getting melted down. That's one wheel style that don't look better when scaled up in size.
