64 Vette….Rebuild 2.0

yeah, you look like you will have to try really hard to get yours to break after you're done! Looks like it will be fairly bullet proof. Have you ever put it down the strip or timed it? What do you know or think she runs? With that motor, side pipes and headers, it must sound like the gates of hell opening when your in it. Personally I like coupes better then verts, but beggars can't be choosers! :D

check the original post for the specs, and if you have some time check out the rest for the updates....
I am putting some sidepipe mufflers in this time around, but will have the sidepipes easily removable for racing it.

It does sound really good when they're open, some have told me its a big block, but look a little oddly when I say its only a SB

Its so refreshing to see these cars getting modded. stone cold stock resto's are only cool for so long... and besides these cars were made to beat on, and to be driven.

I can respect a restored car that is 100% original. I have had really nice show cars, old VW bugs, but its too much of a pain in the ass to worry about them getting worn, dirty, chipped, etc. Old cars are meant to be driven, and in the Vettes case, DRIVEN.

I will keep an eye on this thread. Those numbers are great. Must be a blast to drive!

"Must be a blast to drive!"

Yep, it really is. I didn't drive it at all last year, had the engine out for another rebuild, and a few mods. Went through the trans again to strengthen it, and a full RMVB install, as well as a 2600 stall convertor. Now the rear is in Conn. getting a blueprinted, polished, tuned 10/12 bolt conversion, with the 30 spline Kick/Ass axles with the ujoint flanges. Man, I can't wait to nail this thing again.

hmmm... maybe just pics wont be good enough when you're done, now we gotta have some videos!:D

are those easy to post on photobucket like pics are?

I have the capability to do video on my camera, so if its not to technically challenging, I'll do that.

In a side note, I got my new driveshaft today. 1330's and a .083-3" diameter.
Nice..Spicer solid ujoints, T400 yoke, rear yoke, tube, and labor $220

Yes, you just upload them to Photobucket like pictures.

Side benefit it also converts odd video files to a common file that most players can use.

oh thats cool mang....something else to waste time on.....

The Vette specialist in Conn. has the posi carrier completed as of today, and will be working on the housing the next week.

I bought a set of Richmond gears, and the bolt holes are about .120 shallower than the other sets of gears he uses. I had to get Richmond gears to get a 3.90 ratio. Other wise it was 3.70, 3.73, or 4.11. I had 4.11 and ran out of motor before the finish line. Went through on the revlimiter (6500) the last 100 ft or so. So the ARP ring gear bolts had to be turned down by .125 to not bottom out in the ring gear.
He has to counter bore the posi case to fit the ARP heads in, so they won't hit the housing.

Can you tell what is missing from this posi setup?

Hopefully he'll have this done this week and I'll be getting it back next week.

Yep, the spring loaded plates that put pressure on the posi discs.
This setup has custom ground shims behind each clutch pack that leaves just a couple thousandths clearance in the packs.
He has had no chatter while cornering, and they always lock up for true posi traction, the way he builds them.

magnetic drain plug install. Older Corvettes have to have the rear suspension partially dis-assembled to drain the diff.

my rear diff cover (aftermarket) was cracked on one of the mounting ears for the strut rods, so I contacted the company (after 24 years) and they requested I send them the old one, and I just got my new one today. Unbelievable!!!
