64 Vette….Rebuild 2.0

These pipes are loud with the mufflers in the tubes, and a few minutes at 3-4k rpm, although a very sweet sound, makes you want some hearing protection. And yeah Bill, I’m “hearing impared”. Not sure why as I’ve lived a sheltered life?

Heath, thats the plan! I’ll see what I can accomplish by the 13th.

Might as well get this out to do a bearing check, as well as mag the crank.
Going to filet the oil filter to see what if anything is in there.
Maybe put a 305 back in!
Video taken at 5:30, engine still warm on the stand a couple hours later. Had to take a tire off to go in from the side, as the engine puller wouldn’t reach deep enough from the front due to the engine setback. Up and down on the hoist a few times, relying on the headers on the hoist arms to hold the engine up. Then had to struggle w removing the headers, while using a jack under the flywheel, getting the engine hoist in with its wide legs, moving the lift arms out of the way to get the headers out from under the car…probably would have been easier to use a come along in the shop like I did before.

Right now I can actually sell the complete version (BP3961CTC) $100 cheaper than that long block, the long block isn't on sale

There is a 400 cid 508 HP long block for $6900.

A 427 is quite a bit more because it needs a Dart block, those are ~$7300 just for a shortblock.

Normally shipping would be more but you could pick it up, except the 427, that might not be in stock in MI.

No OHC in an old Vette. If not for that I bet he would of bought that one....

I’m just spitballing here, but turbskis do provide a certain amount of sound reduction in the exhaust. But a pair of them each feeding into its own open side pipe wouldn’t be too obnoxiously loud.

I completely get the whole packaging issue, but really you only need some little guys anyway. The engine is out anyway so you could make the needed adjustments to drop the CR and ring gap to run the hair dryers anyway.

Just an out of the box solution to your problem. (And create 12 more problems while you are at it too!)

:haha:

It looks stout!
I see the major pieces are “Blueprint”.
I wonder who does their cranks, rods, pistons etc, as I don't think they have their own foundry?
Do you know what pieces are in it for…
Rod bolts
Cam manufacturer
Lifter manufacturer

They do their own blocks and heads. There’s a video about their plant.
