I’ll clean the calipers, reassemble w old seals and bleeders, blast, dis assemble, plug or tape off machined areas and ports, powder, reassemble w new seals.
been through the routine @ Kerts a few times!

Parts arrived at the rebuilder today. He sent me a few pics when he got them unpacked and inspected.
Toms axles are kick ass! The offset trailing arms are sweet too!

I got the old bearing assemblies packed up for shipment to him as well.

Old axles are 17 spline, these ones are 31 and a bit larger diameter too. A great match for the 30 spline units in the diff!

Caliper body’s are back from Kert’s shop powder coated.
I’m happy w the powder color match I picked out. There are literally 100 reds to chose from that he can get, as well as many other colors from Prismatic Powders.

Gary just got started on my trailing arms assemblies. He sent me some pics from the last couple days work. Bearing housings reconditioned and new arms prepped for assembly, which included taking off the powdercoating to let the bearing housings be a snug fit in the arms. New arm studs, new caliper dust shield/parking brake backing plates, spring cushion cups, and anchor bolts/nuts.

Then he started fitting the rotors to the axles. The black zinc coated rotors I sent him aren’t machined exactly the same to match the axles…the countersunk screws that hold the rotor to the axle are off center by .050-.065, so to get them to all line up means drilling the rotor holes off center to line up w the axle holes…the easier of the two options. They need to be secure to measure rotor runout….Im thinking maybe just do two holes per rotor to hold them inplace, and use wheel stud nuts to completely secure them…I’ll get his opinion on this as what he thinks is the best way to go. Luckily the wheel stud holes were all on center, and only needed to be sized for the 1/2” wheel studs.
The 1/2x3” ARP studs needed to be chamfered a bit on the knurled edge as they stick through the axle a bit to far for the rotor to seat against it. More machine work! Its all in the details.

These arms are 2” offset to allow a wider tire in the wheelwell. Then the spring and the frame rail become the limiting factor. I purchased a 2” narrower main leaf, so that wont be an issue, and the frame is what it is….I dont think I’ll be hacking into that. The bearing supports are from the crashed 79. Those are needed because they are not interchangeable with the drum brake parts (These bearing supports have the mounting for the caliper brackets). I could have used a lot of parts from the 79 rear suspension, but upgrading to the offset trailing arms and 31 spline axles pretty much replaces those parts. I will still be using the 79 bearing supports, front and rear caliper mounting brackets, front spindles, hubs, and calipers from that car.

I would say a 2" wider tire is a traction improvement, even if the geometry was/is the same.

The arms are 2” but the frame will get in the way before the arm will. I have a 225 on it now, and have maybe an inch to the frame, I think some have gotten a 245 on this body without issue though.
