64 Vette….Rebuild 2.0

Yeah the piston being .031 in the hole is not ideal, but not worth a complete teardown. We got you got some thinner head gaskets to run it.

Been a bit….Mom had surgery last Wednesday so spent a couple days tending to her at her apartment, then all weekend at the drags in Joliet, then a couple more days w Mom. She’s doing well enough now to care for herself so yesterday I got back to the 427.
Prepping the block for paint, I wiped down the machined surfaces so duct tape would stick to them, then covered the bottom end and made a gutter on the head surfaces to keep any water away from them. I positioned the block so the side I was working on, the head surface was tilted downward and angled to prevent any water from migrating onto the machined surfaces of the head gasket. I washed the block w a spray bottle of water and DAWN dish soap 32:1 and misted the cast surfaces and lightly brushed them with an acid brush. Just enough to remove any oils from the surfaces. Then a rinse w water, soak up any drops w a towel and blow dry.
Sat over night in 60* heat, then I finished taping off the top end and give it one medium coat this morning with Seymour high solids primer.
Now to decide on the colors???

Tried to get a boroscope between the rodcap and lobe. I thought this pic was that but it doesn’t look like it now that I see it up close. Anyway from the look I was getting in there it doesn’t look like .050 clearance is an issue.

Next choice…black pan or orange pan. Orange pan pic is the existing 355 engine, the black Moroso pan is powder coated already, so it would need a scuff and paint. Not a deal breaker either way.
This may affect valve cover choice as well, or not.
Good thing I’m solid in my decisions….:dunno:

I like the black orange combo.
Personally I don't like monochromatic paint schemes, a little contrast is always welcome in my book

That's gonna look nearly identical to my engine color wise lol.
Chevy orange block, I have the black wiend version of that moroso pan, aluminum heads, and Chevy orange valve covers lol.

I would have a hard time putting any engine in a Chevy without painting it orange. Although if I ever put an engine in the 66 C20 it will be painted the original 327 alpine-green color.

I feel the same Scott, for nostalgia reasons, I feel there needs to be some Chevy Orange on it.
And that Alpine green isn’t a bad color for the right application.
