64 Vette….Rebuild 2.0

I want to build a engine now.
Ive been battling this mental anguish for a few years now. I can say this…being 66 yrs. old and having been subject to a couple life changing events, it’s now or never to make some dreams come true. You never really know when its your time, so if you can afford it, go for it. Or just max out credit cards and let the bank eat em when you die!..:D:pimp:

When my current 6.0 goes boom I will be getting it built, thinking it will be a stroker of some sorts.

The Vette was built on 4/23/64. Making it 61 yrs young! To celebrate this birthday…
Ive decided this is a rebirth of sorts, so I’ll call this the Rebuild 2.0, with so many new parts that Ive been collecting for a few years now.
The new 427 will require more fuel to feed those 425 horses (wink wink), and also need a return line for the FI system. The fuel line runs between the boxed frame and the birdcage, so lifting the body is perhaps the best way to run those lines, and keep them protected as well. While the body is “loose” it makes sense to put in a roll bar/perhaps a cage (needed to go quicker than 11.5) and makes sense for those kind of speeds as well to put in a better restraint system than the old lap belts attached to the fiberglass floor.
Mechanically, most everything will be inspected, rebuilt, or upgraded, as the new parts pile gets installed. Its frutal to put a timeline on it, as I’m just starting the conditioning phase of my shoulder rehab, and need a friends help to do the heavy lifting, but I’ve been resourceful at times in figuring out how to do things one handed (usually). Hearh has ordered the pushrods and head gaskets, and then I will start engine work w a few more clearance checks, paint, and assembly….after another trip to Arkansas! Happy birthday little red riding hood!

Awesome!!! Like fine wine this one gets better with age. Plus unlike most mid year vettes that are garage/trailer queens this one is gonna rip! It’s gonna be fast enough to blow the new balances off of the other corvette guys!

Congrats dude! So happy you are doing this.

Strokers are sweet.
Every engine I have ever built for my own personal toys has had a stroker crank in it.

If you're buying a crank, it might as well be the biggest one that fits in that block... :D

This 427 SBC Dave is building is a perfect example of that.

Isn't it every guys dream, to have the longest stroke possible... ?

Or at least longer than the other dude. Lol
:haha:

Engines, engines is what I meant ...:D

Man, get your mind outta the gutter.. geesh
:haha:

I love this build, but my biggest question I have which I haven't seen addressed yet is the rear end/axles/tire size etc. Is what you have going to live? Is it going to hook?

Thats the million dollar question.
That pile of axleshafts, diff and trailing arms are all upgrades over oem stuff.
The builder of the diff says regular 500hp hard launches (slicks) will eventually tear it up. He’s built a few for his son and they are now running a 12 bolt conversion in the vette diff and 1480 axles in a 10 second car. In his opinion Ill break a u joint first, hence the 3-1/2 .120 shafts and solid 1350’s. The Toms kickass inner and outer axles are beefy and shouldn’t be an issue. So the plan is build it soft on the bottom end (keep in mind its a mild 427) and go easy on the timing at launch (programmable tuning), then once its rolling bring on the power.
Also this will primarily be a street car with an occasional trip to the strip, and equipped enough to run sub 11.50’s. Wont know for sure what size tire I can get in there until I get the rear end stuff back under the car.
I hope that watching the fast guys launch on well prepped F70 bias ply tires and run low 9’s, (1.40’s 60’) I can manage to go a couple seconds slower on a slightly wider drag radial. I will try to go easy on the launches to keep from tearing things up. If it happens, and the car survives, I would look at a 9” center section assembly.
I think it sounds good in theory?

Don't go easy on it, beat on it, if it breaks, then upgrade to a 9" center. You didn't build all this stuff to take it easy at the track.

Is that factory diff is worth a lot of money still working? Thats the only reason to upgrade it before it might break if so. Dutchman makes a nice aluminum 9" center IFS housing you can make fit in there I bet. I would add upper lateral links at the same time.

And I am going to make it public so you have peer pressure.....

That Vic Jr intake is too small and has too sharp of turns into the head for your bitchin' 427, go with a Super Victor or even better the SV2 intake, whatever fits under the hood, then launch it like you stole it!

:D

Heath always the salesman!
Send me the parts (from your expense account) and I’ll see if I can work them into the plan.

Im not modifying the hood either so time will tell if anything better can go on the engine.

And thanks for the advice!
