67 Shorty 8.1, 4l80 and more

Day 9 ...... After work I removed the front springs, pitman arm, steering arm and rear shackles. I spent more time cleaning and scraping the front frame rails and inspecting for any cracks or signs of damage. Considering this was a fleet /work truck I was surprised I have not found any cracks. Pulled it back outside for hopefully it's last "date" with the pressure washer. Then installed new ORD front brake lines, bolt in steering box brace, springs, shackles, dropped pitman arm, ARP studs and billet steering block. Finally left the shop at 11pm.

Day 10 ....... I got the engine, trans and transfer case lowered in . I installed the trans/ t-case cross member and started to figure out my spacing with some thick washers. They are only temporary until I get my drive line angles figured out and then I will build a one piece spacer.
A friend of mine {same guy that sold me the parts Suburban in post #11 } called and told me he found a body for this project. He was kind of vague about what year and condition { he straight up would not tell me } but said he was sure I would not be disappointed .

Sorry guys, lost some pics on a sim card so just kinda dropped this thread. I still have some pics on my phone and my build journal so I will try to finish it out.
Any whooooo......
Day 11
Went up to Longmont to check out the body my friend told me I WILL BUY!!!
He was right, it was exactly what I was NOT looking for and I have never pulled money out of my pocket any faster!

Day 12
After work I pulled "The Body" into the shop and started removing the engine, trans and body bolts. It was a long Friday and had some plans for a late dinner with my girlfriend so had to leave the shop at 8:00.
Remember the name of this build?

Day 13
ERRRRRRRR SIDETRACK #2
What happened to a Cousin Willard style build? The donor body was a wrecked 2wd shorty and the entire front clip was not usable. The frame was just too mangled to straighten so here we are.

So, it's ready for blazer bash?

Sorry ummmm no. No bashing allowed! This thing got Sidetracked from a crawler to a mall crawler. But I am going to make the bed so it removes easy and build a modular expedition/take it 4 wheeling style bed.

The rest of day 13 was spent positioning the cab and bed on the chassis and measuring everything about a bazillion times to figure out the new body and bed mounts. The body and bed is just mocked up in place with 2x4s and such in these pics. Cut the old body mounts off of the donor frame and called it a day.
It has been a long week!

Day 14
The stock 1988 body mounts were not going to work. The 67 front body mounts had to be raised to clear the transmission and frame bend.
I picked up some free new body bushings off of C-list and with some heavy duty 1" rubber spacers {no they are not hockey pucks} from my parts stash this is what I ended up with.

Mounts will be pulled back off, cleaned, rust removed ,painted and reinstalled after everything is lined up.
The bed mounts required 2" spacers. The too short /missing bolts have been replaced / installed, I love my trips to the hardware store.

Thanks Dave, I am building this at work so I have had to kind of slam this thing together. I plan on coming back and cleaning/detailing and replacing some parts after I get it home. This build is not quite as nice as some on here I.E no powder coating or machined parts But I do ALL of the work myself with no help from anybody. Luckily I have the use of forklifts at work.

Day 15
After work I loaded it up on my trailer and took it home to finish. Up until now I have been building this at work but now all of the heavy stuff is done and the rest of my parts are stashed at home.
I had the small wheels on the back so as to load it on my trailer and I hated how it looked so the first thing I did was put my 24 bolt wheels back on.

Day 17
I got off of work early today so I came home and got busy. The steering shaft was a little short and off center So I added a Borgeson steering joint.

A new steering box

And a hydro boost unit and radiator with electric fans. I found these fans while looking for some other parts in my basement. I wish I knew what I took them off of because they fit this radiator like they were made for it.
I plan on swapping out the rag joint for a solid from a Topkick I parted out.
Yes, that's a lug nut.

Day 18
Did some more wiring and then I installed a 2 piece rear diff cover.

Not sure of manufacturer, it was in my parts stash. I left the center part bare metal and clear coated it. I will pull the outer ring and have it blasted and painted when I install a locker.
Side note.. I hate almost anything diamond plate!! Someday I am going to take a grinder to this
