Yeah, I used to have a picture I made of the 2 patterns overlayed on each other to show that you always have some pretty much touching. Of course, going to a 2-piece adds a 3rd pattern into the mix. That one is somewhat arbritrary, but also competes for the limited space on the adapter. Plus, you almost have to add 2" plus of offset to make it work.I looked into something like this from a "redrill" the hub for the new pattern before. The issue is the patterns put the lugs too close together to the point of not having enough material to remain structurally sufficient. I would not recommend them as a mechanical engineer.

The other downsides are that it's kind of like triple the work to service something like the brakes and if you break one, there's almost no hope of finding parts local (I suppose you should carry a whole spare adapter).
