700r4 blowout thread *ITS DONE!* :)

avery, like you said u dont have a ton of money to spend....so why spend a ton of money regearing those axles to 5.13s? swap in a 400/205 slipyoke and you are done...at most $500 + labor. you are going to easily spend $3k regearing and getting the 700r4. ask me how i know. Sh!t adds up quickly

400/205 + labor + kickdown setup + d-shafts...no matter what route I go it'll add up quickly :) thats the name of the game.

Plus iono what cali would do for the visual when I go to smog it.

Avery,

This is about getting things done right, and at a reasonable cost. You don't listen at times. You haven't learned yet that not everything is able to be repaired/replaced overnight. As much as we'd like it to be. You are making a serious purchase decision. That's what I'm trying to convey to you here. We told you not to go to AAMCO for various reasons. They cannot fit the bill for what you are trying to do without you incurring that expense. I agree, $3K is ridiculous. Shop around and get the job done the way you want and fairly.

BTW, I don't have unlimited money or time, so don't hit me with that crap. I was WRONG with the 5.13. They are good. My bad.

I know where you are coming from bro...and trust me I do understand that things can't be repaired or replaced overnight. I broke it last thursday so its been a week of nothing but calling around and asking questions so at this point I just need to make a decision.

As of now I'm looking into the GM reman unit. I'm going to give them a ring and check it out.

i said 400/205 slipyoke, so you could run your same rear shaft;) should be about the same length (plus u get rid of the 208 for a much stronger 205). you can do the labor yourself so thats free, only thing you would need is to have your front shaft lengthened. get the stock 400/205 crossmember (pretty cheap off here). thats far from $3k. what does smog have to do with a tranny? as long as its done correctly and clean, it shouldnt really matter in terms of a visual, they wouldnt know the difference even if they did care.

sounds like you have you mind set on a regearing and getting a 700r4. if you want to go that route, go for it. if your like manny (;) ) then you can afford that, hes older than us and has busted his ass to have money to build a toy. we arent in the real world working 40hr weeks making ends meet. i remember you saying a while back that you dont make that much money, and with going to school. the smart way to go is 400/205, save the rest for other things later down the road.

hmm good idea but I think I'm sticking with this...yeah not a lot...about $130 a week but still since I live at home and I don't really have any expenses besides my truck, gas and insurance its plenty.

i went with the reman. 700r4 from gm like i told you about awhile back.i was going to change to the th400 also but was told that the overdrive had somthing to do with the emission control and could not be swapped.i picked mine up it was only about $1200 i believe w/warranty.i went the cheaper route and istalled it in the driveway with my buddy helping, then took the core back.when it went out a month later[my fault]they replaced it and installed in one working day.it my not be as built as you want but a b&m shift kit is only like $50.00 for the 700r4.like itold you before that warranty is tits they took care of me and got replaced quickly and free of charge.i say go gm or go home.

EXACTLY!

Its time to move on boys and girls. Avery does not take our opinions seriously. Its time to let him do whatever the **** he wants to do. After all, its mommy and daddy's money. You could go on and on and on to try and get him to see the light, but Avery see's the light HIS way, not ours.

Forget it. It's not worth the time to keep beating the dead horse.

grow the fock up wes...if you don't want to help don't click on these threads. So if I don't take your suggestion then it means that I'm not taking you seriously and doing w/e the fock I want? I don't think so. nate said to give AAMCO a try...I did...they were crazy...it didn't hurt a damn thing and now I know not to use them.
Seriously dude, iono what your problem is.

This thread is getting great :haha: So what did they quote you for a rebuild and install if you don't mind me asking  What is your next plan? Have you thought about getting a buddy and swapping the 700r4 yourself? Hardest part would be setting the tv cable so you don't burn the tranny.

they always do... :)

he hasn't gotten back to me...the bike shop my dad used to work at is owned by a family that also owns the "Selma Auto mall" which is like 12 big dealerships for new and used cars...so when he heard I was thinking about going with a GM reman unit he said to call down to selma and ask the guy (gave me his name) in the chevy parts department to give me a quote for a reman 700r4 and labor to install it...then call him back and he'll work on the price.
I mean he can do w/e he wants b/c his family owns everything but still...he said just let them do their job and let him know what they said.

So I'm waiting to hear back from them with a price.

Avery,

Summit Racing, TCI Maximizer TH-700-R4, all Chevy V8, lockup, heavy duty 1984-1993, TCI-371402...$1522.88.

Do you think you're gonna get the same kinda quality in this unit as a stock GM at that price? Prepare yourself...you're gonna get it...

I'm callin' it.

ehh on TCI...I've heard mixed reviews. If I can't find one freakin' shop in all of fresno that can do it then I'll go with BTO...I've heard nothing but good reviews from their stuff.

Hey Zim,

Not trying to come down on Avery. I really like him and want to see him successful. Just don't want him to make a serious mistake, that's all.

done deal...I called the dealership back and they were being stupid...saying that they can't get a 700r4 and instead of trying to talk to them about it I was like ok don't worry about it.
A couple minutes later my dad called and said that he called around and got it all setup for me. So I'm going to drop it off at a local shop on monday morning.
He said $1500 installed. He'll pull it and rebuild it to 2nd gen specs (assuming he is talking about the pump and clutch setup) and reinstall it.

I drop it off monday morning at 7:00 and he said he'll have it done by tuesday evening or wednesday morning by the latest.
