Great shot Brian.

So Avery, rather than carry this on any farther, why don't you just make your decision based on all this info. Then post up about it again when your wheelin'

Good luck with that

I already made the decision...I have an appointment to drop it off monday morning...I said that above.

OK, I just haven't taken the time to read all of this again.....

Good luck then.

This has been a hoot! Just to put my $.02 in, I got my TH400 rebuilt by AAMCO in Killen Tx. Told them it wasn't for racing, it was for pulling, mudding and rock crawling. They did me right, I think, the bill was about $1800, the tranny was toast when I dropped it off. Anyway, its the tire size and gear ratio that finished off his transmission, and mine as far as that goes. Yes, get the transmission redone, but in order to make it last, get the gearing done. I put 4:10s and detriot lockers in mine, (was a 3:08) went from 31s to 35s.
I dont care where he gets his work done, I dont mind if he has the shop do it, as long as he keeps up on the trail, and dont break down in front of me. I pulled my tranny, and stuck it back in, but rebuilding it is beyond my ability. Knowing your limits is important, I put my gears and lockers in too, but went to the shop to have them make sure it was right before I went out and thrashed them. Will his warranty be good when he comes to TX?
Before you get out to the Lone Star check out www.TX4wd.com and find a 4X4 club and get ready for some good trails.

Keeps going...and going...and going....

Oh btw Buddy, or w/e the fock your name is. I was the one driving around to all the tranny shops and calling them all day long. I found numerous places that I could have gone to but b/c I'm not footing the bill up front for this one I didn't want to make the final decision. Thats why my dad picked the shop.

First off, don't curse at me. I don't stand for that, & never have I cursed at you.

Secondly, & let me repeat Get out from in front of the computer!
Let's see -

The saga begins - What to do! What to do!

I noticed this thread a week ago, & thought, man that sucks, he should get some good advice here & because it's his only transportation, it'll be done within a few days.

Don't notice the post again until...
03/29/07
I look into it because I think, "Oh no, not the 3/4 ton swap saga all over!" Sure enough, there's Avery asking for all this advice, not taking it, asking more questions, arguing with the answers, dragging this post into the nether regions of the intraweb.

So then, I post up my opinion.
Which I do have to say is right on the money. No doubt about it. :waytogo:

So apparently, you stayed up til 1:30 am, updating the board about this, slept in 'til 9:30-10:00, decided to go to AAMCO on nate's advice, were blown away at their estimate, came back to update us (AGAIN), & ask MORE questions about what you should do, maybe ate lunch, left to get a couple more estimates, came back home & started getting all butt-hurt about Wes' comments. There were 11, count them, comments during you're "lunch break" of two hours. :eek1:

I'm pretty sure that if my only form of transportation was broken down beyond my ability, (not likely), or motivation, (not bloody likely), to repair, I could find a shop around town to do that work WITHIN those two hours I took for lunch.

I won't even count the comments that you made after 6:00. During that time, I would've had the transmission laying on the driveway. Ready to be hauled in the morning, (oh, that'd be this morning), into the shop I found during lunch. Or just in my garage where I'd take a stab at it.

But maybe I have mixed up priorities.

Today -
Today 12:58 AMAvery4jc
Again, up til 1:00 am, asking the same questions that had been answered before, and letting us all know that he's right & we're all wrong.
Today 10:28 AMAvery4jc
Today 10:32 AMAvery4jc
Today 08:37 PMAvery4jc
And after this time it's all the same.

Obviously, he had something to do today, maybe he was scheduled to work, maybe this, maybe that. Whatever.

I'd be lining up the parts for the rebuild tonight & getting a good night's sleep to rebuild & re-install the transmission on saturday, but I guess Avery got burned out on hard work during the previously mentioned 3/4 ton swap saga.

But he definitely didn't get tired of milking this forum for answers that he could find in 2 minutes of searching, or posting up a million nonsensical responses like,
haha if you only knew man. You come on here and read a couple posts and make some insane assumptions.
We were working on this together...he is just the one that finally found a shop that we agreed on.
, that just prove how immature & irresponsible he really is.

Dude, aren't you tired of not being able to drive you're truck now for over a week, whilst having the means to fix it the ENTIRE time.

I will repeat,
If you had spent half as much time calling around & researching information about who could do it & for how much, (like Manny had suggested in one of his first post's), as you have BS'in' around here updating everybody on you're transmission breakdown saga, you could already have it done. :eek1:

Later,
Buddy

BUDDY has a valid point. I'm sticking by my words. I'm done with this thread.

lol so the guy thats telling me I spend too much time on the computer just spent a fair amount of time researching this thread and making up a story to go along with some time stamps...this is funny stuff. ;)

btw as far as having the means...well I don't thats why I was looking for a shop...maybe you would have had the tranny dropped and had parts ordered but I didn't want to tear into this w/o having someone that has done a tranny before with me and since that person doesn't exist for me...well I'm stuck with going to a shop.

Tell me where I'm wrong.

That person doesn't exist for me either, I am that person.

Thats what I said. You can do your own tranny work...I can't.

"Bleeeeep!"

"We have off-setting penalties"

"False start-Buddy, building a tranny in the neutral zone, 5 yards"

"Personal Foul, Unsportsmanlike conduct, Avery-disrespecting your elders, 5 yards"

"Penalties offset"

I could be wrong, but is this the longest "what 700r4 trans should I get" thread? Or is all a ruse for a blatten attempt to add numbers to ones post count .....

Well I read most of the thread and:rolleyes:

With as much time as youve spent arguing you could have order a bto tranny and installed it already...

Honestly, why wouldnt you try a tranny swap? A monkey could do it... even the tv cable adjustment...

I know its kind of intimadtating but its not that hard, especially when its a direct swap...Its a total of 6 bolts to the motor, 6 on the heavy duty cover...6 the t case...4 for the crossmember, 3 for the torque convertor... 2 hard lines, strut rods...

When you break it all down its not that bad. Rethink your decision, buy the GOOD tranny do it yourself and learn something.

I didnt see exactly where you said you were getting a tranny but i saw warranty mentioned.... When/ if you blow this new tranny up, if you went witht he gm reman, good luck getting another one... Theyll blame it on your tire size and have every right for it to void the warranty... Just something to think about

Damn, Manny!

You got me wishing it was August!!

BTW, Go Raiders!!

we just got back from the diesel truck show/pulls and as luck would have it the tranny shop I have an appointment with Monday morning had a big booth setup there so I was able to talk to the owner and builders.
They are really cool guys and know their stuff when it comes to lifted trucks...their shop truck is a cc long bed 1 ton furd dually up on 38's.
He said that he isn't going to rebuild my 1st gen w/ 2nd gen parts (something to do w/ the valve body besides the pump swap)...that he is going to take mine out and put in a 2nd gen 700r and that monday morning we can talk hard parts depending on what I'm going to do with the truck.
Oh and he said the same thing...that w/ my 4.10's I should just leave it in 3rd but once I put 4.88's/5.13's in I can pop her into OD.
