700r4 blowout thread *ITS DONE!* :)

no thats not the problem...I did rotate until it was just too bad that I had to keep the good ones up front.
I have no clue how they got like this...they were like this when I bought the truck.
I'll take pics some time and show ya', the rears are basically gone but the fronts are brand new, they even have the little nipples in some spots still.

I have a local friend who daily drives a fullsize bronco on 38.5" TSL radials, and while they definitely hum on the highway, the truck feels very stable all the time, and they seem to have worn quite nicely too. She says she wouldn't go any other way with tires, they are even good offroad!

I'd think they would look better on your truck anyways :D

BTW -- Finished my transmission up today... Total time from start to finish (not including the two day break cause I sliced my hand up) was about 5 hours. One of my slowest transmission changes, less the first one I ever did, lol

umm burnouts? :dunno:

i ran 38.5 tsl radials with very good handling and wear. Oh, the dead horse thing, I'm waiting on my BTO stage 2 and hdtc as we speak and am going to attempt the install myself. Mine went the day after replacing my 241. Hope you have good luck with yours. I'm running 37 FCII's with 4.56's and have no problems, except the smoked tranny, but the tv had not been set.

You know You could of bought a Th350 from some place like Advance auto parts for $500. It would of bolted right in. I am running a 500 dollar Th350 in my Blazer. It's pushing 400 HP. I love it the Tranny it's awesome. Granted i'm going to have it ripped down and a new tail shaft installed so I can finally bolt my Np205 to my truck :D. Plus I'm going to add a shift kit. I am having a tranny guy do it for 200 bucks. I am suppling the Kit and tailshaft.

i thought so too... another things are alignments off, off road tires on road all the times are prone to shorter life most of the time. i had a off road bfgs it last like 15k.. alot of highway tho.. now i got 31 inch bfgs on em.. goin on 2 years and abt 10 k miles.. still looks new.. but its mostly local truck now.. nice truck by the way avery!:wink1:

My tsl's have over 12000mi on then, mostly road mi, but there is still 75-85% tread left, even with smokey burnouts. I did rotate 5 of them(1 spare) every oil change (4000-5000mi). Still, i was impressed with the wear characteristics. Spent alot of $ on rebuilding the D60 and having it aligned. The radials were not as deep in the tread as the Bias or SX's, but wore extremely well.

but then he wouldnt have overdrive, which is a big plus

I'll have to think the tires over and crunch some numbers...

Just for kicks here are some pics...its not exactly thrilling but none the less I'm a picture kind of guy so here we go...

Here is the list of what he did (well not exactly all of it but the big stuff...he didn't charge me for the new TV cable plate, new plug wires, bolts, etc.)

Here she is back in front of the house safe and sound :)

here's a shot of the new driveshaft...they did a great job...its balanced perfectly and is the perfect length...

Here are two pics of the rebuilt transfer case and the new shaft...notice they also replaced the old slip yoke with a new one that has 1350 ears so the new d-shaft is 1350 throughout...

He replaced my old transmission mounts and replaced some hardware that was missing :(

Oh and I finally found where my oil leak was coming from, at least partly. The back of the oil pan...so I'll need to drop the pan and see if the one piece felpro seal I put on was crooked or munched when I tightened down the bolts. BUT the oil leak is basically gone so I know the majority of it was from the rear main but none the less I'll take care of this asap.

I should have taken a pic of the tranny cooler before I put the front end back together but I forgot so you'll have to use your imagination for what you can't see in these :)

Thats it :)
Its been running great so far and is definately better than it has ever been. Next up will be gears though so I can get this thing into OD w/o dropping way out of my powerband.

First off, let me congratulate you and say I'm glad your happy. I don't know how you do it, but 6K views on a 700R4 is a record! Glad the drive shaft turned out the way you wanted. Take care of her while she still has those gears. Shop around and get the 5.13's. You'll be so much happier!

Now, for the possible bad. Is it just me, or the pic? Your truck looks like she's leaning starboard. I'd check your body mounts just to be sure.

Manny

lets go with all of the above...the street slopes towards the gutter (obviously :)), I'm standing and holding the camera straight and the springs/bushings are sort of goofy. :)

It looks worse than it is in that pic though...in person you can't even notice it.

At the risk of getting 12K views, :haha:, please describe what you mean as "sort of goofy?" If they are bad or damaged, that isn't good and you should address it as needed.

Manny

sort of goofy as in they aren't cracked/broken or anything like that but they probably need to be replaced for good measure b/c the truck does have a slight slant to one side and I don't know if its b/c of messed up shocks (bent shaft on one), bad bushings in the springs or sagging springs (that'd be my guess).
Basically every part on the truck needed to be replaced...eventually I'll get there but for now I'm happy with the progress I've made in the past one and a half years.

going from a truck that couldn't pass smog running on 10b's front and rear w/ 3.08 gears and 38" tires to a truck that runs great, has a solid drivetrain, 3/4 ton axles and has had seals, etc. replaced and issues addressed as I come across them I'd say its in pretty good shape for now.
But it'll never stop so I'll just keep plugging away at it :)

Avery,

Shocks on a leaf spring truck will not cause a list. Bad bushings in the spring packs will! That is a major safety hazard. If the bushings are destroyed or damaged, that is placing the load unequally on the bolt that keeps the spring in the shackle. That will bend the bolt, weaken it and in time, it could shear. Definitely not good.

Don't take it as if I'm raining on your parade. I'm proud of you for what you have done. Your rig is coming out way ahead and I want you to be happy. It's just more important for me to see you safe. Safe for others, safe for you. All I'm asking is that you make a good visual inspection of your trucks body mount/suspension system and try and find the problem. Once detected, that will help you to determine the fix.

Can't wait to see you get the 5.13's in and really be able to hit the juice and set the ponies free.

Manny

Hey Avery,
Check and make sure it's not your body mounts first... the body actually looks kinda crooked compared to the tires, which the problem would still need to be addressed but maybe that will keep this from turning into a spring pin type situation...

Just for my own education, is that pinion angle correct? It looks pretty well straight, 0-1 degrees, compared to the t case. Optical illusion?

why didnt they replace the rear main when they had the tranny out? thats a 5 dollar part, and there was a $21.95 rear seal on the receipt, was that it? do you get any vibes with the shaft like that? i did. so i got a cv shaft, have yet to put it in though.
