A 241 is hardly the worst low-range ever at 2.72:1. If you think low is bad, the 4:1 Rubicon case is obviously worse and if you think high is bad, the venerable 205 is worse at 2:1.

You said that manual 1st works, but does it also work in manual 2nd and 3rd? How fast is the engine going when you "plant your foot" and it doesn't go?

It sounds like you are going to top gear very (too) soon which is causing poor acceleration. Make sure the tv cable is hooked up and in adjustment.

Hmm, I never thought about it simply not going into first gear in drive. I'm not really familiar enough with the operation of automatic transmissions and the TV cable, but I do know that these transmissions are notorious for issues cause by that cable. I will certainly start there. Thanks!
