71 Blazer rebuild in Texas

Go through Wes at Classic Heartbeat, he is a member here and on 67-72 or order through GMCPAULS.

If you can, do not order from LMC. I still have a bunch of their crap here that didn't work. Some of it is the same as from the two other places I listed, a lot of it is different. Buying panels gets expensive, try to do it once, unlike myself.

Good luck, and welcome to the site....

BTW, has anybody mentioned to brace your door opening yet?

I will contact Wes.

I cut out the weak rusted trash areas today in the rocker and I need to get inner rockers, Outer rockers, and is there a replacement part for the bottom end of the windshield pillar...

Those of you that have been here please feel free to give insight....

Yes, the bottom of the A-pillar pieces are available.

Hope you braced the doors first. :)

Did not brace doors yet, just opened pass side but only took out tissue paper metal on rockers and doors still open and close well.
But will be bracing doors tomorrow, I need to get gas tank for my wire feed welder.

rockers

truck looks relatively rust free, how are the rockers? If roached out, fix the rockers before anything else.:waytogo:

That's what I will do, I have been cleaning end painting the undercarriage and drive line.

Just doing a little here and there...

Brace the doors....
Brace the doors...
Brace the doors...

Check the dimensions across the top and bottom of the door opening to make sure that your brace is actually holding the dimension that you WANT to end up with.... if the door opening is already sagging, you are going to lock-in that crappy dimension forever.

Also. I know it's scary... but you'll never get a quality repair of that rotten front cab support with the torsion box in the way. Cut the spot welds out and remove it now. You can then get it beadblasted and into zinc chromate (Ryoken Green) on both the inside and outside before you weld it back in.

Every new 1st Gen owner makes the same mistake of being too timid and only doing small rust repair patches, and then ends up going back to do larger and larger sections anyway..... fight through the fear and get ALL the rust out in one fell swoop. You'll ultimately save time, and the end result will be better.

Thanks again for all the input. I have just installed the Double layer hardtop and it is bolted down and in place, I had the chase all threads in the top for the bolts to go in easy.

After the top had been reinstalled I found that the doors had alignment issue. Not bad but they needed attention.
It seams that the last owner ran without the top installed and they adjusted the doors for that, I will recheck fitment of the doors again and then weld in braces, recheck doors close then replace lower sheet metal.

And I will be replacing all needed metal...

reinstalling the top will certainly help keep everything lined up. Loving the progress.

engine crossmember

On my 1971 Blazer it looks like the past owner had at one time installed a Big Block in the truck. It now has a Small block and the past owner has removed the SBC crossmember and just welded brackets to frame for the motor mounts.
Could someone tell me if they have a stock SBC crossmember to sell, or where can I buy a replacement SBC crossmember.

I wish I would have seen this last week. I just got rid of mine. :(

Pretty sure I have mine. At least the crossmember. Prolly the engine mounts too, but have no clue what they even look like anymore. Lol

Anybody got a pic so I know what to look for? Been while.:D

I found this pic:

It is 3 pieces so you may need to search for all 3. :P

Pretty sue I have mine, sandblasted and POR15'ed. The engine mounts to that then?

Chit.....I just realized, I could just go look at the other 69 in the driveway.. :doah: :haha:

lol! That is why you're speedhole mike, and not genius mike. :haha:

Lol, no kidding. Thankfully you guys like me for my good looks, not my big brain. :doah: :pimp:

And I did find the part. Looks like I blasted it and slathered some por15 on the top, but didn't do the bottom. :dunno:

are you sure that is a small block crossmember? The top pieces look different than mine.
