71 Blazer Vortec 7/16 -- Custom Bumper. Yes or No?

Bumper fitment.

Purchased my lines from Inline tube. I also special ordered the 1/2 inch fuel line for an extra 40 bucks. Maybe someday I'll have a hungry 502 or 572! :D

Lines fit nicely!

Also had my buddy bring his 72 over in case I needed a comparison for where the lines went. We ended up messing with the bumper I wanted to run. I had my front fenders trimmed for the tube to wrap around but the tubes still needed some extra length so we cut them for the time being and for mockups.

NEED SOME OPINIONS HERE!

My wife hates it. She likes the classic look/stock bumper. I want to run a skid plate and make it a custom/off-road look. But I also see where she is coming from and now am a little iffy myself. I do like the stock bumper and a classic look but having already cut the front fender lips I'd have to get new fenders to run the stock setup.

You guys let me know what you think. Does this bumper ruin the look of a 1st gen? Custom or Stock?

ORU's front bumper. This is the kind of skid plate I would like to run.

I think if you skidplate it & maybe fill the gaps in with some sheet to kinda provide a more solid/structured look, she might like it more. with all the gaps between the tube it doesnt look as clean.

Neither....

I really prefer the look of a chrome factory bumper. It adds the correct balance of brightwork on the front of the truck. The black bumper just doesn't frame the grille correctly.

You could try something cool, like merging the upper part of that desert-style bumper (and the extra lights) on top of the factory bumper. That way you'd still have the classic "look" of the 1st Gen, but with the added bars and lights to give it a more up to date look.

It might be worth playing around with it just to see if you like it.

Greg...have you been inside my head? I've been toying with that idea for a while.

Interesting idea, that would look soooo sick. Best of both worlds. Sounds like some work tho!

I really do love the look of a chrome factory bumper. This is the setup I'm gunning after. I believe he is running 18's on Nitto 35's. I'll be running 20's on 40's. Cowl hood, gloss black with two flat black stripes. I think this truck is soo smooth. New spin on an old school truck.:bow:

I'm going to keep truckin' on the build. I'll play around with the bumper idea when things get closer to being in the final stages.

Brandon,

Any more pics of that silver one? I'm not 100% on board with the wheels but the rest of it looks really sharp! :waytogo:

You could do the mock up of my bumper idea on your current black painted bumper and then temporarily spray it will "hillbilly chrome" (rattlecan silver paint) to see how it looks. I ran a silver painted front bumper for years when I was experimenting with the hidden hitch stuff.

Ultimately you might be able to come up with a bolt-on desert bar that tied into the factory bumper at the factory bolt hole mounting points...that way you wouldn't have to have the bumper custom plated ($$$). Just add your creation to any stock factory bumper.

Now that I think about it, that would be a KILLER product to design and build for the 1st Gen crowd....kind of like tube doors. Nobody offers them and there really seems to be an unfulfilled market demand.

I wish I had more pics of that silver truck. I looked all over the 67-72 board to see if he was over there.

I agree on the rims. Although I think 18's on 35's look great, the curvy spokes ruin the look. I went through the same brainstorming when purchasing the right rims for my Titan and glad that my "spokes" are a straight shot.

It would be a killer product, a total clean/unique look. I did find a bumper that looks to be a little of the same idea.

Clean, but still 1-OFF!

Well crap, that silver one is exactly what I want my finished product to be. Change the rims to the black rockstars and you got it. Love yours by the way. You are keeping your blazer black right? My vote is for the stock bumber also. Just looks nice. Has anybody got a stock bumper with a hidden winch set up going on?

VTBLazer had a hidden winch on his blue 1st Gen... with a stock front bumper
It's a little challenging but completely possible. The "Might As Well" truck is going that route when the time comes.

There's a bunch of trucks I recognize in that album...including mine! Those musta been when the PO owned it.

Wow IGOR Sweet PICS, where did you find those!? Man that truck is sooooo nice! Was he on CK5 or some other forum?

That truck was on Ebay awhile back - I believe that was where I got those.

Other pics are just ones I have collected over the years...

AJ - I noticed yours was one of them - I believe that was before you owned it?:waytogo:

Best PHOTOBUCKET album I've seen! I'm going to bookmark it if you don't mind!

What happened on the interior? weird.
