'71 k502 The Misfit

I hate to be so long between updates, things are always crazy these days. Progress continues for sure, just at a slower pace right now.

The beginnings of my skid plate/engine cage

Looking good. It's always nice to see this one pop up to the top. :waytogo:

Must be nice having the lift for that underside, type of work. I think I had at least 500 times crawling under the rig for that part of the build. :doah:

Seriously, consider me jealous!

As always sorry for the few and far between posts. Progress is continuing and the suspension is soon to be hung. Here are the latest photos of where I am at today.

The upper piece of tube replaces one of the factory crossmembers and goes all the way through welded to both the inside and outside frame sides.

These three pieces of tube on each side go all the way through and tie the inside and outside frame together.

Very nice work as always man. :waytogo:

Soooo, close to a flat belly. Can't wait to see how you incorporate the skid into the mix.

Thanks, the inability of the Atlas to be clocked flat with that particular adapter is going to keep me from having as high and neatly a tucked belly as I would have liked. I did not realize when I ordered my Atlas that I had to order a certain adapter for the Atlas to clock flat. I am so happy that the Atlas is no longer taking up a ton of my bench top in my garage.

The lift has been the best thing to happen since I started working in the back yard on this thing.

Some nice progress to share this week. The front end is hung on the Cage radius arms.

This would be ride height with a 42" I only have 39.5" tires right now but may have to pull the trigger on 44"

Those wheels and tires belong to someone else, I was just seeing what the 42" looked like with all the new sheet metal removed and the whole thing being setup for 42" - 44"

are the cage arms setup for the shock to be mounted to the arm? or am i whackadoo here.

If I were going with a conventional coil spring suspension I would have a double shock mounted there. Since I am on coilovers, I won't have anything there.

... but those orange knuckles are 5 lug too. :dunno:

I wonder if five is the norm on the knuckles or just a Ford thing? Chevy appears to have six studs on their knuckles. I see I did a terrible job at answering your original question also. I am using a 1979 Ford dana 60 front with Reid Racing knuckles and a Dana 70 rear. Good eye, I learned something new tonight.
