71K5 - BP71K5's Just for fun build

Couldn't wait to see what it looks like with an intake. Hooray!

No big deal. Mines the same way

So it's the square-ish port that's not visible which is open to the exhaust? I mean that rectangular opening isn't connected to anything, is that right?

Edit: yea, that is just a blind opening in the head. I can see all kinda of stuff falling in there. Fancy block off plate maybe? Seems like some people just stuff aluminum foil in there. Not sure I can bring myself to do that.

Aluminum heads might not have that weird hole in them..... ;)

The gasket should cover that, it's just a heat transfer thing of some sort. Felpro "performance" series gaskets have a block off insert in that spot.

X2. Just put in a set of felpro intake gaskets. They have a thin block off plate in the gasket.

Old pic of the Edelbrock heads I had. Same crossover. New Brodix heads don't have it

My intake gaskets don't cover the hole so I ordered another set. I've run out of little things to add to my cart to get free shipping.

The manifold doesn't have the EGR on it and seems to match my old iron manifold. I guess I didn't notice the gasket covering it when I tore it down.

Update 6/23/2017

Yesterday I stopped by the wrecking yard on my lunch break and picked up a throttle body for a 454. But didn't realize my adaptor plate is too small for the bigger version. Ugh, more money to spend. Anybody need a "small TBI" and adapter plate, let me know.;)

DIY4X also came through with something I've been waiting on.

Spent the morning finishing up details on the "new" motor. Sand blasted and painted the valve covers, all the fittings and plugs, etc.

With the new motor almost ready, I decided to take the day off work and make some progress on this thing. At some point the family needs a vacation and I don't want to be working on this thing all summer. So it was time to clear out the engine bay.

That's it for me today. Worked on this stuff from 9:00am straight through to 6:30pm so I'm beat. Forgot to eat also, but I'm remembering now. :D

Don't paint the new crossmember until you test fit whatever headers you're gonna use.
