Looks good!
I always like seeing someone else doing up a first gen.
It's more work than a second, but well worth it!

Just a suggestion, I would do the kingpins on that 60 BEFORE you realize how much deathwoble sucks.

And I also noticed you mentioned moving your front shackle hangers for the 52's?

Just curious because I didn't have to move mine at all on my 71.

yea i noticed the kingpins, i may do those before getting it under there. as for the hanger, every 2nd gen is moving it forward, & judging by the space on the front of the frame i can move it forward some to get a better angle on the shackle. i just haven't read up much on the Gen1 guys doing the 52" swap. not too much info out there. have any pics? thanks.

Ok, i just read the entire thread over again. (great read BTW) And i just figured out why it takes me so long to get anything done. (3 months to finish 3/4 ton)

I dont drink enough!

Also that pic of your feet was classic, i cant count how many times i've looked just like that after grinding, painting, etc. I love my flip flops as well.

I remeber once i got sun burnt in my crotch from welding wearing shorts.......couldn't walk for 2 days.

On a more serious note......Very impressive work.

Remember our trucks have shorter springs though, so the shackle is already farther forward than a second gen.

Here are pics of my front spring buckets and the shackle angle I ended up with.

My tires are centered if not an inch forward, and with an 8 inch shackle it works perfect.

It looks like it will hit the body mount, but my springs are almost flat at ride height, so it never touches.

The one thing I did have to do was get a long travel front shaft made, compression is fine, but these things droop like mad!

i completely overlooked the fact that our springs are shorter. is the front spring front hanger in the same location for a 1st & 2nd Gen?? so does it make sense to move the hangers forward?

You still have to move the front hanger forward.

Ok, here's the deal. Most of us have kinda backed off the rigs through this coldest time of year. So we live through others projects. I must say i'm very disapointed in your latest updates. Currently i'm living through yours and manny's rigs cause i have no life. (i watch yours a little closer cause its a 1st gen) How can i help to get some update pics?
some beer? um whiskey?, help me out here. :D

j/k - Whats going on with that beast? I was surprised the thread had fallen down twords the bottom of the page.

sorry man. here where i live, we have our winter weather of 65* & i'm just not used to working in that kind of weather. i'm used to 95-105* weather :eek1: . i've also been really busy with finals, projects, family, moving into a new apt, driving an hour to my parent's to get work done when i have time, & doing some little things to my 4runner...and of course, the mandatory beer drinking. lol. but pics are coming, trying to get a lot done, ordered my 64" 3" TCI springs, bushings, 8" shackles, and teraflex 60 manual hubs. i also got something going on with Kert that he's shipped out today. something VERY top secret. just for us First Gen guys...pics coming...no worries.

eek.gif
)...now just to drill the holes for the brackets and the boxing will begin...also got my www.DIY4X.com crossmember in that was built by Kert, the first prototype for the Gen 1s & it was a perfect fit...will get pics when i have more time...please be a bit more patient with me :D :haha: ...i promise pics are coming...

...here they are...pics of the final coats of paint thrown on everything. also getting my 52s together with the UHMW-PE (thanks to JekBrown) and ORD zero rates...these things look cool...also a pic of the stock upper shackle hanger VS the ORD FUSH...big ****in' difference :D

and of course 20 grade 8 1/2" bolts with required hardware. these will be used on the rear spring front hanger and the front spring front hanger. i guess you could say beefy. & expensive...the hardware & bits came out to just shy of 50 bucks :eek1: . i'll be drilling the holes in the frame and brackets tomorrow and will be getting the sheet metal and argon as well so i can begin boxing the damn thing hopefully this Friday. time to git'r'done.
