72 C10 - longbed muscle truck

Its Richmond gear set. I put in a truck for a weekend and the ratio didn't work for what I was doing. So they came out. Very low miles
Ok so that's the 4.10s. So no posi or locker to go with them? What would you want for the set? And when would you be able to say if you could sell the 3.73 posi?

Got my new oil pan, installed today. Looks good. Hopefully I can pick up the transmission tomorrow or Tuesday and then start getting everything back together. Gotta prime the oil system, grab some fittings and plugs for the intake and figure out what carb I am going to run. Hope to be able to fire it up next weekend.

can I make a suggestion ?

its out now and you have trans out also .

why not a set of poly engine mounts and tranny mount . ditch the rubber stuff that's old and worn out by now .

I am thinking about that, are poly mounts that big of a difference from the rubber? These mounts seemed to be in good condition before. There was no vibration or clunking from anywhere. Got a recommendation on good affordable poly mounts?

Today I got an oil pump primer and tried to prime the system but my cordless drill would only spin it up to about 50-55 lbs of pressure, and the battery would only last for a minute at full speed, so I am going to borrow an electric drill from a buddy to prime the system for a good 3 minutes. I put the headers on to test fit them with the spark plugs and wires and I am going to have to get shorty plugs. The plugs I was using in the old heads are now too long. Little stuff, but it feels good to have oil in the motor! Valve covers and new plugs are on their way. Probably picking up the transmission on Friday. Going to paint it and then hopefully get everything installed this weekend. Praying for a successful "fire right up". Few more little things to buy like fluids etc. but it's getting close.

What plug you need? I've like 8 sets of auto lite 3926s

I ordered some accel shorties from summit. If you have some new shorties that would work that you would part with I may be interested. Never ran autolites so I'm not familiar with there part numbers. Always run AC delco in the past but they don't make short plugs. Accell is the only manufacturer that summit sells in the short variety.

Oh sorry, they are standard length

When you said short I thought threads for some reason, then offered you a long thread plug!

Nap time!

As for the poly motor mount suggestion I have Kert's competition mounts in my K20 with a 400 and love them. But as I type this I have a weird feeling 67-72's use a different style mount? Not sure as I've never had one

Yeah, they are not the clamshell type mounts like the newer trucks, they use a flatter mount with 1 bolt holding it to the frame.

make sure to turn the crank 90* 4 times threw the oil prime . . . what I have read a lot of guys do .

I prefer energy suspension my self .

another member here had problems getting the correct stuff from the other brand .

Tonight I primed the oil pump, primed it a good few minutes, got oil to come out of almost all of the pushrods, not worried about the couple of them that were barely dribbling, stuff I have heard and read says that because the drill doesn't spin the driveshaft as fast as the dizzy does its fairly normal to not have oil coming out of every single one while priming. My drill isn't that fast. Then I installed the distributor which was a PITA. It took probable 20 tries before I finally got it to drop in perfectly aligned with #1 at TDC. Then I test fit the plug wires and headers, I have installed the shorty spark plugs and I wanted to figure out where I was going to put each wire and how I was going to route them before it was in the truck. So now headers are back off and plug wires are labeled. Tomorrow I am going to go pick up my trans. Hope to get it painted as well, also want to clean up all of the accessories and get them in place. Planning on dropping everything back in the truck on Saturday. Borrowing my buddy's engine load leveler to hopefully install engine and trans together. Praying she fires up and I did everything right.

Dropping those dizzys in is a trick.

I turn the oil pump with a screw driver to match the dizzy at TDC

Itll work, cross fingers

Didn't get much done after work all week. This afternoon I went over to my buddy's shop and put all new u-joints in the driveshaft, then came home and installed the plug wires, headers, heater and upper rad hoses, bolted the trans down and the crossmember in place and got the driveshaft almost installed. I think I have every thing I need now to get it running/driving. Motor is full of oil, I bought trans fluid and coolant today. Going to pull the edelbrock 1406 off my old blazer that is parked for right now and run it on here. Tomorrow all that is left is to hook up the fuel lines and gauges, tach wire, belts and bolt on the fan, fill up everything with fluids and hopefully it will run.
