72 K5 "About Time". Windshield Header Bow time.

Nice work!

Thanks! Lots of small stuff ahead of me. Need to order the window header kit and cowl stuff. This way I can finish the whole front. That's my goal for the next 2 months anyway. I have been playing around with my frame as well. Dirsuper gave me a bit of motivation.

When I don't feel like getting dirty I take off a few things and scrape a few things. Helps spice it up a bit. :angry1:

Man, that brings me back to that year or so of rust repair. Tack, tack, drink.

I drank a lot of beer that year. :wink1: :D

Looks like some nice work you're doing. Keep your head down and keep on tacking. Once you get done with the rust, the rest of the build is a lot more fun. :deal::burnout:

Thanks!

I know. Even after all this little stuff when I'm just replacing the big pieces at least things will feel like they are progressing faster. I'm sure it will be more interesting to the CK5 family too!!

Just picking away.

Had my share of beer cool down moments.

Inside the window frame was surface rusty. I sprayed it with rust converter at least it will slow down and prevent any more cheese. One more day on the driver's side and I can do the much less involved passenger's side. Not nearly as rusty. Then I will order the windshield header set.

It's amazing the amount of work you are putting into this. I think a lot of us would have let something that bad head for the scrap heap.

Keep up the good work!

Thank you!

Definitely means a lot.

I'm about to crest the hill with this tedious crap. It's one of those things where you either go all in or like you said go to the scrap yard. I'm sure untainted first gens are going to be harder and harder to come by and I couldn't push it aside. Besides. I'm having fun!

Looks good man. Before I tore my truck apart, I never thought in a hundred years that I would be able to do what I was doing and it was a huge jump for me. Looks like you have the same thought process which is awesome. Your hard work is paying off for sure.

Nothing like ending the day with a nice coat of Royken Green!!

A pillar and kick stuff done on the drivers side. I had enough of working in the same stinkin spot!!

I have a bit on the passengers side to restore before I put the windshield header kit in.

I brain stormed a bit next...

I stated before I don't need the cab vents. Also, I want a vintage air. That means I do not need the holes for the AC, the weird dent for the blower motor, and the vent.

I already need to do some repairs on the kick panel so that's easy. I think I am going to mirror the drivers side as far as shape goes.

So....I am going to cut out the "hole" section of the firewall so I can smoothly close that in. During that prices I want to extend the firewall to mirror the drivers side. Meaning, no more dip and depression for the blower motor.

Next I will make a mirrored curved piece for the cowl the same as I did on the drivers side.

Now when you look at the firewall it will be the same on both sides. Once I put the next level of the cowl on I will re shape that spot where the blower goes and because I wont be using the vents or the cowl as an air sucker, I will be cutting the cowl piece short to not pass the A pillar so I don't need that crazy flange tacked on there.

I guess this is overkill, but It will make it just that much more like my own design, especially since I have been tediously renovating their original design for the past few weeks!

Yeah, they sure were. We didn't have all of those new fangled toys and panels that you guys have now, way back then. :shame: :haha:

Heck, I found Sean (Z71paramedictraitorfordmechanic) a windshield frame here in Cali, boxed it up and shipped it to him in Hawaii. Now it's just a push of a button.

Are you getting your stuff through classic heartbeat?

Yes sir. Full quarters rear floor header bow cowl....pretty much a firewall short of a new truck!! Whatever Wes doesn't have I also know to look at gmc Paul's.

It is a good thing they have these new fancy things. My b pillar and door jams were pretty rugged. Now it's all one beautiful bolt in piece right to the rocker box.

Haha I love the extended name for Sean!

On to the passenger side. Removing the side vent and cut out for the blower motor that I won't be using. Gives me the opportunity to clean the inside of the a pillar. This side is more or.less just surface stuff compared to the driver's side.

Now both sides match! Next is to cover the ac holes and make the firewall smooth and make a mirrored image of the driver's side curved portion of the firewall/cowl area. Windshield header and inner cowl will be her in a week or so.
