'72 K5 - AJ's Gray Matter Build

UPDATE 8/23/15 - Inspection! Finally finished up all the odds and ends to get the truck inspected. Took it in last weekend and failed because the parking brake wouldn't hold. Got back under the truck and found the pads on the caliper looked like this:

I overtightened it when putting it in, and the shop where I took it for an alignment took it out for for test drive(s) with the brake on :doah: So.....called up Jesse and ordered up another one. Got it all squared away and took it back yesterday. According to the state of Texas, the truck is now road worthy. :woot:

Time to get the plates registered now.

On a side note, the foot pedal isn't cutting it for the ebrake. Gonna need to go to a hand brake. I'm not getting enough clamping force due to lack of travel.

Would a new cable that has more adjustment fix the problem. Control cable can make any kind of cable you need, they custom made my ebrake cables for less then $100 to my door.

That's why I never set the parking brake on any vehicle I have with an auto transmission of someone else will ever drive it. It's happened too many times just like that.

Bringing this pic back up. ARB compressor sitting nicely in the aux battery tray. Hadn't put it in the truck yet.

Thought about running dual batteries...

You figure it out....

Wow, hidden anti-theft compressor cover! Might want to change the battery label to say "Walmart" or something. Someone might see the "interstate" label and steal it. :)

It was a real Interstate battery Brian. Matches my actual battery. Nastiest project I've ever done.

No pictures of acid leaking everywhere?

You gotta change the air lines to be red and black larger diameter to take the charade all the way. :)

I have some leftover battery cable. When I'm done it'll look like it's wired.

No pics of the battery gutting. Went thru about 5 pounds of baking soda though even after draining it.

I assume a dead battery at least?

Martin

Dead battery for sure Martin. Picked it out of the 'used' pile at the shop waiting for the Interstate guy's weekly run.

That's a cool little trick! I'm anxious to see what hand brake you pick, as I'm in the same boat.

lol, I was looking at that first pic thinking "wow, he has a lot stronger hands than I do".

I'll let you know Sean. It'll likely be something similar to what Mike did as it multiplies the force with a relatively short throw.

Forget palming a basketball, I can palm a car battery :D
