72 K5 Blazer 700r4 upgrade

Also @Wes Harden what about the speedocable. Will the factory cable end fit on a 208? Or is there an adapter or different end needed?

The end is the same.
You just need to see if you can route the cable better to reach.
If you can't then you'll have to to get a longer one.
I didn't have to get another even when I put a doubler and moved the T-case much more back

I think this might be my case as well. I have park and on the column it's well to the left of park lol. I might just not have the last low gear. Which for now I'm ok with. Long as OD works.

That locking kit is Exactly what I'm looking for. I'm changing all the fluids and have to take the transmission pan off anyways so it'll be a good time to put that in.

Funny thing is summit is still cheaper than most places even in Canada. With taxes duty and shipping included lol.

So the TV cable. I'm pretty sure it's the original carb that came with the 400. I'll have to do a little digging just to verify but it's nothing fancy like a holly or edlebrock.
Nothing wrong with a Qjet, especially when you are no longer afraid of it

it'll Definitely have to do for now while I get all this other stuff under wraps. It's that whole priority over wants problem. I want all the black accessories for the engine but what I actually need is a driveshaft

I'll have to give it a pull and see if I got some slack there. I didn't need that GPS speedo after all lol

Ok so i finally caved in a bought the subscription lol. seeing I'm going to working on this for the rest of my life lol.

I have the Qjet lol. Bellow is picture of the connection, the bracket that holds the tv cable and how far out its adjusted.

So to me it looks like its way to loose? from what I've seen online and videos I've watched.

Also is this the right setup for this. is the geometry good?

Unfortunately, I cannot answer that. I’ve never owned a vehicle with a Quadra jet that had an automatic. :haha:

It looks ok to me.
I would like to see the throttle cable less curvy right past the bracket but it should be ok.
The TV cable should be tight when the gas pedal is depressed all the way down, if it then you're good.
If it's loose then press the tab to pull the cable tight then press the gass pedal and it will set itself up

so the brackets and connection look like the proper ones?

When i went full throttle on the carb the TV cable was tight.

Assuming you do have a short-foot mount adapter ( pics will verify ) and 208/241 case the 85~91 “W” style crossmember from an K5,K10 or K20 ( note the 87+ are called V instead of K ).
The flatter long foot style ended in 1984.
The S style should only fit the 85+ 1-Tons - the odd shape was for clearance for a PTO drive off of the 205 case and are made to fit the deeper frame rails of a 30 series chassis.
If there was a short foot S crossmember for the K5’s,10’s & 20 I’ve never run across one but most likely someone will let us know if there was one.

Note: all the CUCV military trucks should still use the flatter long foot crossmembers no matter the year due to Uncle Sam requiring common parts replacement for the 84~88 run of those trucks so source yours from a civilian truck.

OK so back to this issue lol. this is the adaptor foot I have, Which i assume is the tall foot. 700R4 mated to a NP208. This set up has made my rear driveshaft longer by an inch or more.

you can see in the second picture the cross member. It has the flat cross member. Im not sure any of the other cross members are going to be any better for clearance. I have a feeling i'll need to make a cross member to clear the front driveshaft.

Also don't look to close at anything lol she's a work in process lol

On my qjet tv cable with properly adjusted, I could not wide open throttle the tv cable limited the travel. I need this the spring and retainer in this kit to get wot. At one time I had the correction leveler on, but I couldn't see any difference with or with out.

If you plan on servicing the trans, adjusting the tv correctly with pan off is easy. I can try explain the procedure if your interested.

To answer/confirm your question - yes you have a tall foot adapter and accompanying “flat” crossmember. These are from 1982~1984 and should be plentiful since GM sold a buttload of these trucks.
You might find that with the front CV-joint shaft that you have enough clearance for the OEM crossmember - these came with a fairly long Saginaw CV and it cleared just fine. The aftermarket even offers a 1” spacer if needed.

Wes and the other guys have ya on the right track with the TV cable adjustments.

I have my trans filter and oil already to go. so that would be great.

I'm going to get the torque converter locking kit too that you recommended and do it all the one time.

i'll have to bolt it on and see.

do you have a link for the space?

1st I found the cable bracket I used, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NZXKP4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I could not make the factory TH350 bracket work.
I also didn't care for the universal/adjustable casing TV cables and used similar to https://www.amazon.com/ATP-Y-228-Detent-Cable/dp/B000C8TAHO/ref=sr_1_1?crid=6FPCKLJIJK4F&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.XHAUUy1bBLaFPr3IbS9Q3GPLQ9j2G_iF3VRKxbWLQZTh5OKzByz2r5XcS6lRBKluMzbQuddPWDeJGQJweH6pERpKtxIdha8Uso10nir3p1smpY79yCNKZEQEs9pkJg7AlOnsHX9XW02YsXb8N7yPWAEuoReA-BrIhHMZ1y36Hr6qHyegicMthmwDbtaN-xlziaLXCiFNvEua_4uuUVUodGvVMwjZm4ce7HoFiPnPESE.FzM73vK0ZIYjLqIYYUZhoZowt4yyiaJGlg6sdrV_Q7E&dib_tag=se&keywords=throttle+valve+cable&qid=1724206795&sprefix=throttle+valve,aps,149&sr=8-1

The Sonnax https://www.sonnax.com/parts/2766-carburetor-tv-linkage-corrector-kit.

If you have the pan off you will see the Throttle Valve plunger in the valve body (blue arrow), and the lever that pushes the plunger (red Arrow). The tv cable actuates this lever.
tvspoollever.jpg
Ideal is to have the the lever touching the plunger, no slack or space, so as soon as throttle starts to move the plunger is moving. If you can't get it to just touch, then a little pressure on the plunger is better than a gap between the two. No matter what the cable looks like up top if you get the lever touching the plunger and have full throttle you are good.

Add the Sonnax spring to the end of the cable, then snap on to carb linkage. This picture show how the spring is installed, this is not a Quadrajet carb linkage.
Sonnax spring.jpg
It is nice to have a helper move the throttle/step on peddle while you watch the lever and plunger, for finial check at least.

My trans has @ 20k miles set up this way. I have an Edelbrock 1902 copy of a 4mv, divorced choke. Should be very similar to yours linkage wise.

When i swapped to a 700r4, i had to buy a tv cable for that trans. But to adjust it, you squeeze the button on the cable, then mash the gas pedal to the floor (engine off) and it self adjusts.
