I was wondering about the wheels too. I assume your just gonna ditch the hubcaps when wheeling cause where they are now they are gonna get hammered. No matter how careful you are. I would still mess around and flip em just to see.

So what does the width end up being with tires on?

On the headers man have fun. I have only done one set. Helped with a couple others. I love doing it

82.625" Total Width of Axle Assembly at outer tire sidewall
13.500" Section Width of mounted tire on 9.75" wheel

I crunched the numbers to run a "reversed" wheel setup, and I just can't get there with the hoops flipped. My current H2 backspacing (with the 3/8" spacer) is 5.1875".... when I pull the steel wheels in a bit deeper, the backspacing will be 4.1875" (with a .813" Thick spacer) That's pretty much the MAXIMUM that I can do before I have to completely redesign the front steering arms. :eek1:

The reversed hoops I don't have any wheel spacer at all, and the best I can do is 3.500" of B.S. which basically pushes the wheels out 1-5/8" farther out than the current H2 setup is (about 3.5" of tire stickout beyond the fender all the way around)

It just doesn't seem like it's going to work that way.

I'm guessing narrowing the hoops isn't an option?

Not in this lifetime. :haha:

I've already got WAY too many hours into those wheels without cutting and rewelding them to move the drop valley area around to a more favorable location.

In reality, having a thick aluminum spacer isn't the end of the world. It actually gives me a location to feed an airline from the center hub area (CTIS fitting) to the outside of the wheel where the valvestem is so that I can hide the lines, instead of having them visible (like they are on the military Humvees). One more "stealth" cool-factor item added to the list, if I can pull it off. :D

I'll just leave this here.....

Wheels really change the look of a truck build don't they...? :)

Looks good, what color are you going to paint the steel of the wheel? Traditional white or more body color?

Wheels look great and will make the look of the truck, well worth the effort in my opinion:waytogo:

The wheels are going to be painted factory white, and I'll rework the hubcaps so that they are the traditional blue bowtie and blue pinstripe that would have been correct for the 69-72 era trucks, instead of the mustard colors that were used in later models.

I'm trying to keep this truck "original".... :D:whistle:

Good choice.

Why not get the correct hub caps?

I don't really like the "pointy" style 12" hubcaps... they kind of remind me of a Hershey's Kiss or something. Plus they are ridiculously fragile and hard to remove without damaging them.

I had a set on my '72 Burb and just wasn't a fan. I figure using the later model dog dish style and painting it in the correct "early" color scheme is a fair compromise. :waytogo:

I suspect the concours judges are going to notice that error right off the bat. :haha:

Wow I see why you wanted to put the centers there. It looks like a factory wheel. Just please take em off when wheeling

Eric, I think you are under the false impression that he is actually going to take thing thing out and drag it over rocks when he is done. :)
