Sir Issac Newton will hold the lower plates for me.

I like the term "projackstand" though now most of my projects are proroller-dolly... that said, you know how people who lose a limb have to re-learn to walk? you don't want your poor Blazer to fall over immediately after all this lightening - ease into it, so the jackstand thing is like physical therapy for trucks.

Ummmm, at the risk of being "that guy" how are you planning on hold the plate underneath for the 1st bolt?

Hes going to design some computer-mechanical system to hold the plates for him. It's gonna take about 2 mo... :D

Seriously though... I can't wait to see this thing on the road, flying over 5gal buckets w/o batting an eyelash.

SQUARING THE SQUARE NUT, SQUARELY....

It is important that the square nuts be....squared, before welding. Glad I got that squared-away...

Super-slow progress, but 4 are welded into place permanently, and are also "squared" to each other... looks good!! :waytogo:

OCD much? Will you be matching bolts with nuts, so that each bolt when torqued will be square as well?

3 or 4 years ago, one of the Great 8 (the finalists for the Ridler award), was marked off because the writing on the bolts was not lined up. Of course, the response to that was pretty classic - and the judges don't write that down anymore as a discount.... yeah, I didn't say they don't do it. We judge, we judge a lot.

the most OCD of all of that? those bolts were under the car where you could never see them when the car was on the road... Greg is an animal comparatively.

Why do you think I wanted to find buttonhead bolts? They are round on all sides... no crooked hex head problems. :)

(Of course, the Allen socket could still end up misaligned but even I might be willing to say "close enough".... )

You could always use index washers to fix the hex head orientation issues that will keep you up at night. You know a machinist...you know it will bother you...you know there is a machining solution...

But then what about the inconsistent heights of the index washers at each location??? :yikes:

:haha:
