You'll have to excuse the forum name as its one I've used for years across various platforms, but it might hint at my allegiance to the green oval! Anyway I was sent a link to this thread about 2-3 years ago I think and just wanted to finally register and say that I love the build and the attitudes behind it. My own project 3 linking the front of my 90 along with a no-compromises rebuild was the reason I was sent the link. The whole MAW thing really hits home. Things take time and not being afraid to keep pushing for exactly what you're after rather than compromising is a skill in itself. I know almost none of my friends understand and just ask why I haven't just put it back together!

So keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing progress as and when it happens. Talking of which, how do I see the pictures in full? Are they only for premium membership?

Most of this thread was created using PhotoBucket. Way back at the beginning it was a free photo hosting site and it worked great (even with remote linking). Over time, PhotoBucket has cranked up their prices for hosting and now has a well-deserved internet reputation for acting like extortionists with their yearly fees ($300/year).... I've got several thousand photos linked to Photobucket so it's going to take me forever to migrate everything somewhere else.

Adding insult to injury, many of the newer Photobucket links that I've posted (and pay good money for) don't even work properly. Thankfully, I was recently invited to post photos directly to the CK5 gallery which makes my life a lot easier, but apparently makes them invisible to "non-paying" members of CK5. That's an unfortunate side-effect, but if you decided to become a paying member here you'd see all of the images that are probably being blocked right now?

hmmm, i did not realize only ck5'ers see our pics since swapping hosting... i feel kinda bad now giving out my build link to other social media now.. they show up to check it out, and there's no pics... bummer...

I thought if the ck5 gallery image was used via "Share BB IMG Code:" (brackets removed from quote) it was view-able to anyone whereas an image uploaded as a direct attachment to a post was only view-able to paying members?

I look at the 25 bucks as entertainment. I spend waaaay more than that on other crap that offers way less fun/value.

2020.02.10 - UPDATE! - CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR....


Work....Bah!!

Had a great plan last week. Bought the materials to install all the airlines for the compressor so that each weekday evening, the final bits of garage infrastructure would be finished-up and the weekend could be spent on "truck stuff".

Then everything went sideways at work, and ended up logging almost 80 hours on that instead.

Needless to say, no garage time all week and almost lost my weekend to work-related stuff as well.

However a few things got accomplished with only one setback.

@Deuling sent me a few goodies this week to help inspire the MAW project... These laser-cut parts are going to work out great, so I'll need to order up a few fistfulls to make sure all the frame/suspension/crossmember bolts can use these.




Sunday was spent doing the stuff that was supposed to happen during the week:.


Hung the old hose reel in a convenient spot:


Threaded together a bunch of overhead pipe to run the air across the garage...



And tied it into the old Quincy upright...



The system was all set, and the unit was plugged into the wall. Built pressure perfectly... no leaks but then it started acting weird... and dangerous.

The pressure switch didn't seem to want to shut off at 120psi, and when it finally did there was a visible spark inside the switch itself. The manual override switch on the unit didn't work at all and the only way to shut off the compressor was to pull the 220V out of the wall....



So it looks like the switch is bad. Not a huge deal... it's around $40 from what I can tell... but it's just a frustrating end to a long, miserable week where I was kind of hoping to end on a high note.




Still..... things are getting closer, so I can't really complain too much.

Holy moly, did the safety valve open or did you catch it before that?

Don't forget to release the head pressure before you restart it.

There appear to be 2 safety valves to prevent dangerous tank pressure. One is on that pressure switch and one is at the very top of the tank (hiding under the platform where the motor and rotating assembly are bolted)

Neither one opened and pressure went to 125psi.

Mostly I was just concerned about the sparks and the inability to shut off the compressor using the proper switch....

I'm not sure you have a problem. My compressor would shut off at about 135-140psi. The valve that is on the switch is the unloader valve to relieve pressure on the head for the next start cycle and the "hidden" one is your safety blowoff valve.

Agreed, my compressor shuts off at 137psi.

What’s the blue airline running from the bottom? Some kind of drain purge valve?
