72 k5, sons first truck build.(officially NOT mine now..)

its a 3" BL. I'd rather not have it. An inch may be ok but we'll see when we get there. the original owner had the body stripped and repainted inside and out so there are NO original tags. i dont know why the vin plate was taken off. I've had troubles before with this vin deal.

Insurance got back to us and their letting him keep the K5 AND giving him a $6500ish check :woot: we're finally gonna be able to finish it for him:waytogo: lot of work ahead...... but it'll be worth it

Sh!t I think you guys will be money ahead!
A bunch more work but it should be sweet to have the extra money to do what you/ he likes. :thumb:

so far from our few conversations on it we'll be doing a soft top, suspension lift/shocks (not sure which direction yet), finish bodywork n paint, rebuild the doors, rebuild front axle/steering, wheather stripping (has none on doors), and possibly a 700r4/208 swap for ease of use-mpg-and lower first gear since it is a DD with only mild mud roads and occasional ditches for wheelin duties

That's awesome news! I think you're the first person ever to not get totally screwed by an insurance company... Congrats!

they would have given him $9k to walk away from the truck.... he said NOT A CHANCE.......... I'm so proud:waytogo:

so...the insurance or NADA value of these things has gone up? Looks they valued yours in that $9000 range. This is actually good news.
When I start driving mine more I will have to adjust the miles per year on Hagerty policy or switch to regular insurance.

According to NADA, they value these at $3500-$4500 for anything above a "parts car'. If it runs good and looks good "from 20 feet" they value them at $8000 - $9000
if they look good up close and everything is nice they value them at around $18000.00

that the nada for 1969 through 1974

I'm glad they did the right thing. I was thinking they were going to undecut and say 2-3 gs. This should just about get it close to finished again. Especially since you guys do a lot of the work yourselves.

yeah i did some figuring and with extended margins of error we should be able to do what he wants and have about 13-1400 left to either put in a 700r4 or ?????

check in hand and we'll have a frame soon:D we went over plans last night and we're on track for a fun build. I have to source a lift kit, shocks, and seats yet. (thinkin summit since I need to replace the headers too). But I think I have everything else in shopping carts already.... Just gotta start ordering:waytogo:

Nice! Have fun with the re-re-build!

Thanks:thumb: we will.

I have the lift, shocks, headers, and drop pitman ready to go:D All I gotta do is deposit the check and start pullin the trigger:woot: I'm so glad we get to finish it... I felt bad that I couldnt pay to do the things I told him about when we started this. I had more money then but made a few bad decisions. Now the dream will be realized:popcorn:

Now you get to re rebuild it the way you want with no cash out of hand like before. Sucks that the original stuff is too tweaked. After 40 years I don't have a lot of stock stuff on mine anymore either.

He's pretty stoked to get it finally finished.. I think he may even be gettin excited about workin on it again.... which is REALLY cool. I thought he had gotten over the workin on it stage and didnt want to.. he does now:D

F***in bank said they had to call to verify the check from progressive..... went in the back for about 20 min.... then came out and said it was OK but they were gonna put a 1 week hold on it anyway..... Just to be sure.. :sign27: I guess the call wasnt good enough:dunno: That blows... I was hoping to have the frame home and painted by next weekend... now we wont even have the cash till friday:frown1:

That's BS! Shouldn't a check from an insurance company be certified anyways???? I'd be pissed at that bank!

I started buisiness with them recently when I was underfire to refinance my house.. theve been p1ssin me off ever since the start but had to use them due to my house being UNfinished:confused: they will be losing all my buisiness as soon as I can refinance out of there... I just stuck the money there to keep it away from my auto pay bill account.

Keep in mind a bank and insurance companies number 1 job is to entirely screw you out of every penny they can. Keep on them fools.

That's pretty normal for me...my bank holds any third party check for 3 days when I deposit one...insurance...refunds...a week is a little long...
