'72 K5 - Where do I go from here?

That's weird, why the hell would they do one and not the other? The guy I bought it from knew NOTHING about cars. He said that he had a mechanic ("really good") who did all of the work on it. For the PO it was just left over from his single days of going out to the desert with friends. Now, with three young kids, I think his wife made him sell it. He seemed like a good dude.

Never believe anyone who says they know nothing about cars but is selling a car. That's just a back story they have so when you buy the car and find out about all the problems that are causing them to sell it, they can claim "I didnt know anything about it"!

I read someone's signature on here that read "Sometimes I wish I had a 'previous owner seeking' missile." Seems unusually appropriate. :). Welcome to the club!
 
AJ, Sage advice, I appreciate it. I have a rough plan, but I think I will use this 'slow roll' time to lay out, on paper, a very detailed plan. I am in no hurry, but I do not want a shop ornament. With all the Christmas parties and such over the next few weeks, it's not like I will have a lot of time as it is........

bp, Oh I know that story well. I once bought an old F-100 from a guy who 'knew nothing about cars.' Long story short, dude was a friggin mechanic, and the engine (straight six) had a cracked head. He even had a friend in on it who just happened to come 'look at it' at the same time as me, and was 'very interested.' That was almost 30 years ago, and I will never forget it. When I looked at this thing the only thing I cared about was the body and a clean title, I knew the rest was getting replaced.
 
Score! Sitting here just kinda spacing out (It's hard to get motivated when you are starting a new job in a few weeks) and I thought, 'I should just get that lift now.' I call the dude, Saturday at 10AM my lift (as in, to lift a vehicle off the ground) will be installed. Guess those tires are going back on tonight. I am putting the lift in that area of the shop, but at an angle so I can pull in and out of it with the other two vehicles in the shop. I am getting a Challenger E10.

That gives you a few days to start spraying all the rusty bolts with Kroil (or PB Blaster) and get them soaking.... I'd hit them a few times over those days so that they have plenty of time to absorb that penetrant.

.....that, and yeah work on an action list to prioritize your work. :waytogo:

Challenger makes good stuff, I've sold a few of them and their customer service is very good.
 
I dunno. Diagonally just doesn't seem like the best use of space to me.
 
I had to attend my daughter's Christmas band performance. Aside from being pleasantly surprised they could still use the term, "Christmas" here in California, I thought about this lift the whole time. I am actually leaning towards this:

I actually pushed the red one in and out, with the cardboard tubes and the white one sitting where they are in the pic. It took one, back and forth, but that's it. These things are so short they are easy to maneuver. Anything longer (like my C20) and the white one will have to be out of the way, but I don't see that being a problem, the white one is my daily driver.......at least until I start my new job and get a company car! Regardless, I plan to keep the white one running, and if it's not, it will be in the 'lift bay' so I can fix whatever broke. It's so funny how you can change your mind, I was absolutely set on angling them....until I tried it aligned with the workbench. Seeing how much easier it is to get around it, I think I would be crazy to angle it. Of course the dude who has been installing lifts for 30ish years might walk in and point out something I am missing........this current position does give me good distance from saw cuts, and I like that!
 
Make sure you can get around a longer vehicle as well. These blazers are pretty short. It would suck to have it work well for that, but when you put a long bed in there it's a nightmare.
 
I appreciate it. Yeah, when my buddies want to change the oil in their F-HUGE50s (they are all contractors), I'll have to pull both the white one and the C20 out of the shop, but that's ok. Even if they were not running I can push them out pretty easy.....as long as a wheel does not lock up! I'm gonna have some buddies over tonight and we'll do a sanity check on it. One of them just got a new F-350 Supercrew with an 8' bed, that should be a good test subject! I have to get down a ceiling fan and a friggin air hose reel I just put up last weekend. Putting up that air hose reel about killed me, trying to hold it with one hand and get a screw in with the other.....but oh well. I've wanted to relocate the ceiling fan since the shop was done, so this just kicks me in the ass to Git 'R done!
 
Well, he could back this monster between those cardboard posts, so I think I'll be good. Did not realize how big that truck is until I saw it beside my C20.
