Ummm, so its wednesday....

Minor set backs gentlemen. wanna drop the tank and clean that up and put in a new sending unit ($80), but the PO welded angle iron around the bottom of the tankup to the frame and put a very low clearance hitch reciever. i've siphoned the tank and filled it with water (disconnected the line) so i can cut the bracketry off with out blowing myself up. and been chipping and painting on the back half of the frame. it may be a while before the tub is back together... remember "the might as well" thread? something like that going on here.

but i digress keep, keep your big girl panties on :haha: and pics will be up (step by step) as i finish portions of the rear build.

PO had some crazy hitch reciever welded up to the frame which didn't allow me to drop the tank until it was removed, but once that was done got the frame sanded down and painted and the tank painted as well. ordered a new sending unit and tank staps once they come in bed goes back on.

yes, yes it is. but thats part of the process. the first pic is before sanding, the later pic is after sanding. better but not by much. the texture look is from bed liner so it looks rougher than what it actually is.

It's not a game for the impatient. I've had to learn to add paint cycles to the delay:

1. Order
2. Fabrication (for custom bits, i.e. from Kert @ DIY4X)
3. Shipping
4. Prime, paint
5. Install

Fortunately my K5 isn't my daily driver. Heck, it isn't a driver at all, most of the time :haha:

Oh oh oh, look in the LMC catalog for their "squeak protector" or whatever, then get yourself some tar paper from the Home Despot and do the same thing. The squeaking'll drive you nuts otherwise.

already on the list... actually have a better idea than the $10 LMC part. the $2 bath tub mat.

yep lil suction cups to hold in place. cut to size. water proof. cheap.

since i'm sittin waiting for parts i've started a nice quick rebuilf of my other passion. vintage snowmobiles. tore down a 80 TXL 340 (love the old Indy's but not as vintage as the old leafers) for a rebuild. new ring, pistons, quicky paint job.... get ready for old man winter. once the K5 parts arrive i'm back in the swing of things.

PArts are gonna be here today or tomorrow. got eh bed lined up exactly where i want it. looks off in this pic but thats due to body sag. once it's jacked up and burn in place all the body lines are straight. gettin there!:woot:

This ones for you.
One prepped tank.

2 tank strap, tank strap cushioning, sending unit (3 fitting type not 4), Locking ring and gasket, one comes with the sending unit, but i ordered an extra just in case. Save the $10 bucks, you don't need 2 this it so super easy. $142 LMC sent to my door.

With the sending unit dropped in place. note the tabs @ the 12 O'Clock and 5 O'Clock position sit in exisiting grooves in the tank opening. (it''ll only go in one way)

Locking ring placed over the sending unit.
340LC007-1.jpg

Gently tap the 3 tabs on the locking ring with a flat screw driver and hammer in a Clockwise rotation, alternating tabs so as to not warp the gasket as it's compresses.

Done, time for a cold one.

And yes the little red kiddie play shovel is ABSOLUTELY necesary in this proceedure. LOL

Dang and I thought I was sensitive about using different shades of blue :haha:

Slightly off-topic, I am convinced that spray paint cans breed like coat hangers. I have half-used cans of colors and textures I *know* I would not buy, so they can only exist because cans I *did* buy got busy in the back of the shed and had their illegitimate children there on the shelves.
