We should probably let his thread return to regularly scheduled programming. lol. But if I do bust mine up, you guys will be the first to know. :D

Why? In this thread, regularly scheduled programming means endless derailments that have no value whatsoever. I'd rather learn stuff about axle breaking, it might be useful someday (and the derailments won't).

Besides, axle tech is itself a derailment, as he's not doing axle work right now...

I have a dollar says you can't break the front in Moab this year...

A dollar? A measly dollar? Man, that won't even buy an extra spindle nut, much less repair the carnage from a good breakage.

But it would certainly give you a dollar's worth of amusement. :haha:

I offered to bring him a spare D44 ring gear :dunno:

And he's not here to boot us

Since y'all are derailing this thread, I have run 36x12.50s humvee take offs on two different ifs trucks with and without lift. The "limit" for ifs is 33. I have only broke one cv shaft in three years and I was bound up at a stupid angle and decided to drop the clutch. So I don't generally believe the party line on maximum tire sizes.

I just read through this whole thread again. I even took the detour to the Fordyce thread.

Really great job, and great recovery from that disappointing trip. You just doubled down and went after it.

It also makes me want to do a 1" body lift, clock the case, and move up to 37's. *sigh*

And yes, @bent72, I'm working.

Hey thanks phil!! I really hope im doing a good job. I know this rig will be night and day from the old rig.

Sometimes its hard to notice if you're going the right direction when its right under your nose but I think im doing alright. At least everything I do ive seen to it that its done right.

Fordyce was a huge learning curve for me. Arguably if I didnt have smog equipment on that truck it would have never happened. At the same time now ive got a far more refined truck then what I would still have.

This truck will make it across fordyce this year. Aiming for blazer bash as well.

This is stepping outside my area of expertise, but I've heard a lot of griping from folks running huge tires on 1/2-ton axles. The ball joints, stub shafts, lockouts, brakes (etc.) just weren't intended for 59" swampers. Not sure how far into headache territory 37s are (folks have run them on 1/2-ton fronts), but I'll be watching to see how well that front axle holds up.

I think people expect 1 ton performance from half ton stuff. There a really great video of a bronco wheeling fordyce on half tons. I call it suicide but because of the smaller tires and careful driving he pulled it off.

Theres a guy out of sac who runs 40s with a dana 44 across the rubicon. Just have to be hyper sensitive to loading up the axle and using force.

I think half tons are great for the desert if you're not bombing around. For rocks I wouldn't consider anything less than 1 tons but thats me trying not to get left somewhere again.

I will say I would damn sure have a 14sf in the back.

Got any dollars for dana 60 parts?

Got the master cylinder bolted up tonight. 10mm studs...who knew?

Big thanks to @dremu for letting me snag the mystery pushrod that doesnt exist for the master cylinder to hydroboost!

It was tricky to get the pin centered up. I really should do a write up on this whole swap. There was an amazing amount of gray areas on this whole deal.

I pumped the pedal a few times and it feels pretty good. I can see ill need to make a small, thin sleeve to make the rod fit better on the pedal pin...no big deal.

After pumping it I noticed fluid coming out of what I beleive is the return side...pulled the little plug off and boom! Fluid shot across the garage. I think its just power steering fluid. Yay.

I knew. At least that they're metric, if not the size. You shoulda asked :) The PS fittings are also metric (16mm and 18mm wrenches come to mind.)

As we discussed last weekend, the best way to do the swap is to source everything at the junkyard, so as to get all the stupid little parts that nobody sells separately. Then you can get your new/reman parts on top of that. Pricier, but less confusing. I know, especially in your case, it's a challenge to find stuff @ the JY, so I say that as general advice for other folks reading the thread more than specifically at you.

And wait until you try to get hoses -- there's three, and the shapes and fittings will drive you mad, and trying to get them at the Vatozone or the like is difficult at best. I can take tons of pictures of mine, and I may still have part #s for some of mine, but you'll still end up swearing, I betcha betcha. Be forewarned :D

It was one of those odd deals where a 3/8" nut went on so I thought ok I'm covered. A little deeper digging and they are 10mm...nothing lovely home depot couldn't solve.
